The funniest thing about this entire deal is that there is not one single mention that the song is being released ANYWHERE. Not even in Dr. F's post. The wording is a little deceptive, but he's simply saying the band is about to unleash the song during their live shows and that people should go to the live shows wherever they end up being.
There is no actual release of any kind being mentioned yet all these chickenheads bobbing on P's dick think they are having religious experiences cuz Prince is so kind and loving.

The funniest thing about this entire deal to me...is how drastically these lyrics:
Live or Memorex...will have to be changed...even though Prince doesn't utter a single curse word in 'em. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I don't believe it's a virtue, but I realise it does appear to make life easier.
I much prefer optimism, but I had to call time of death on this one for myself, mainly because of this:

True. The thing is, Prince SHOULD be worried about the lawsuit. Any self-respecting person would be. Or, are we to take the view that he's as nonchalant towards it as he was towards the fulfillment of the original show. Finally, wtf has it got to do with Foolberry? He's not worried because Prince isn't. What does he care?
Prince. Just stop wasting our time...

Basically I was saying that I usually prefer to stay optimistic until there's no hope left, but in this case it's hard because I get what people are saying; that there's no mention of an actual release in this thread, only the suggestion of a live version at a concert - given that I live many thousands of miles away from anywhere he's likely to play anytime soon, that's not super exciting news - for now anyway...
... W2A live CD/DVD, anyone???
As for the rest of it, that relates to another thread...

Yes, now this shall be interesting!! I know he have changed some things with the lyrics but, that's cool with me. That groove was tight and it's one of those great outtakes from back in the day. I bet this sounds great. I look forward to hearing this. It's just a shame that The Revolution didn't get to play this cut back in the day because that would have been sick!

Prince seems to have a terrible fear of people viewing him as vulnerable or not in total control of every aspect of his life, or thinking his life isn't a perfect paradise filled only with hot music, hot women and good times...and when shit hits the fan such as this lawsuit (or other talk starts circulationg which might make him look like a mortal man, i.e. his hip issues), he has his designated mouthpiece issue a swagger-laden propoganda blurb to try to dilute all the discussions about his troubles, and redirect focus elsewhere - this time, Extra Loveable and Misty.
Maybe Prince truly ISN'T concerned about this lawsuit, and really, how he deals with life's trials and tribulations is his own business. But his concern with protecting his image and persona as someone who is above anything distressing, unpleasant, or painful (physically or emotionally) is obvious every time one of these "PRINCE IS ABOUT TO UNLEASH [ fill in amazing new song/video/tour/book/perfume/etc ] ON THE WORLD AND BY THE WAY HIS LIFE IS AWESOME AND HE'S NOT CONCERNED ABOUT [ fill in whatever rumored problem he's having ]!! and it's kind of amusing. Listen. EL is a GREAT song. But that does not mean it would be a hit. In todays culture? Prionce could do another When Doves Cry but ti will not make a dent on the chart. Nor will a RollinjgStones song, or a U2 song. These giuys are 30-50 years in , and the zeitgiest is not trying to make them a hit on the pop charts. Seriously, what is the matter with you?

Ahem... is it really so hard to just release the original track?

Much love to Funkenberry.
As far as the lawsuit, of course Prince isn't concerned about it. Just like MJ was not concerned about the hundreds of lawsuits he faced every year.
Either he'll end up paying or he'll get out of it somehow. It doesn't make a difference either way, a few million dollars is chump change to P. There is no reason for him to give a fuck. |

Fool. All you've done is simply restate Prince's position like you were making an argument of some kind. Don't bother if you have nothing to contribute.
You see, it's not exactly Prince against the Man this time is it? There might actually be people out there who do care that he pays back what's owed to the Irish promotor...say, people who ended up paying for airfares and hotels for a concert no-show. Some of them might even be as blindly fanbotic as you.

this can't be a coincidence. someone pointed out the cover version to him and he heard it. then he thought "hmm, wait a minute".
another classic outtake about to be released as a one off live performance or a half assed newly recorded version.
we've had a few of those over the years. all turning out to be song without either a home, or a heart.
rebirth of the flesh (rehearsal). really? finally we get the song and it's a lame rehearsal? only half the song there, really, plus irritating shouting from bandmembers. urgh. what makes it even worse is that he now probably considers the song to be released and does not care to ever release the studio version.
splash - bad sound quality, tucked away amongst tons of new material on npgmc, offline. one of the reasons npgmc could have been great, if only he'd released more of these and bundled them together on an album.
in a large room with no light - kinda cool new version, can't hold a candle to original tho. performed live two or three times and only available for a short time at the montreux jazz festival website. not even put up on his own lotusflower site at the time. infuriating. even more so since people were wooed with talks of "10 hours worth of unreleased material".
all day, all night - theme of a few shows in paris. artwork featuring the title and then he's playing it in concert and it's just a chant. and one short acoustic version with just a few lines. another cock tease. nothing ever came off it after that.
extra loveable - no doubt will have the same patchy 'one off' release that doesn't fit in anywhere and will be made available through either doc funkenberrie or be broadcast on some internet radiostation with presenters talking over the intro and outro. probably only 1/4 of the lyrics still in tact and mostly jamming.
there are more examples of this weird promotion/resurrection of outtakes that fans have been begging for ever since the first outtakes leaked way back.
so he's obviously aware of how much people love this stuff and how badly they would want another crystal ball type of release. yet time after time he teases us with it and then just backs off again.
at this point, i've had enough of outtakes. the above all made it clear to me (as some of the tracks on crystal ball did too) that the best we can hope for is more releases like the BOC bootleg, with first generation copies of the outtakes. that way you get them the way they were recorded. not the post 2000 prince tinkered with versions or an "official release" of a classic outtake which turns out to be nothing more than some loose jamming with a chant of the title thrown in.
if he wants me excited, he's either got to anounce a new album or multiple disc set or just go for a full on review of the vault with a multi disc project of outtakes. but don't mix them up anymore. it deminishes the value of both the new and the old. and i'm quite sick of it to be honest.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway now you can commence to cut off my head
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Those people should have done some fucking research in the first place because Housequake said the show was NOT HAPPENING quite literally WEEKS beforehand. I'm in the UK, why do you think I never bought a ticket?
"Don't bother if you have nothing to contribute" - sorry, I forgot you were the owner of this forum and decided the rules. Oh wait - you aren't!
Listen up. We don't know that Prince ever agreed to the gig in the first place. His position is most likely that he DIDN'T, otherwise he would have settled by now. Which puts the promoters in the wrong for just rushing out and putting tickets on sale for a show that was already said by people in contact with Prince's team to NOT be happening.

Totally agree with you but....remember those 1984/85 rehearsals, those long versions of Noon Rendezvous, Something In The Water etc. etc.? They were often 15 minutes long or longer and I still can´t get enough of them. But I also fear that he will just give us some edited, overdubbed live or rehearsal version with unnecessary extras or audience chants or whatever. The original version from the early 80s would be cool though, and if there really IS a long version somewhere in the vault, then I´d be more than happy to hear it. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I hope none of you will miss the rape scene in the song? We want him to leave that out because it is am immoral idea. We agree with that, right? And don't give me the Eminem excuse. Prince actually means it. Believe me, I feel it...

Methinks it is an outtake to Purple Rain, until Darling Nikki made more sense and was less immoral. It's also probably a diss at Vanity for dropping the movie.
Thank God that worked out or we would have missed a certain boob scene..lol All you others say Hell Yea!!

No. It was written and recorded in 1982 during the 1999/What Time Is It?/Vanity 6 sessions and was allegedly intended for the Vanity 6 album.
Certainly possible that he considered resurrecting it for Purple Rain (Sex Shooter was originally from the same sessions), but there's no evidence to suggest that. |
