My experience was overwhelming...I loved it. I keep going back every year trying to recapture that '1st time' feeling, but guess you only have your '1st' once I wish I could have seen it when Mayte's big pregnant belly was painted on the wall. I had only been in Minnesota for 2 days! Can you believe it, lol...and I was already invited inside the Park. For me it was like being in some dream...not in a silly sense, but literally...back then, this was 1991 or 1992, it was exclusive, and getting inside was not like it is today. In fact, it was near impossible to get inside without either knowing someone personally who worked for the park, or being given a special VIP pass (by paper, or verbally) to be allowed inside. An amazing experience the first time, for sure. That was how I first saw it, too. It was 1994 (might have been '95), my sister and I were visiting friends in Minneapolis--one of our many regular trips from Detroit. We got to be cool with some of the staff at the old NPG store; one night we were at Glam Slam and we were invited by these folks out to Paisley because they were giving a party for Mayte. We didn't however, get to see as much of Paisley as we got to see at the first Celebration. Both times were pretty awesome; like so THIS is where it all happens!

What was your impression? Why were you there? How was your experience? Was it what you expected? --- I've been there, many reasons and different times...the very first experience was a tour. Just me and two friends. It was great, because we got to see almost everything (no not inside the vault ) without anyone around. I had expected it to be a lot more funky looking than it was, but it still had a pretty look and feel to it. What about you? Me!!! I was there for the first celebration, and it was totally awesome. My first impression of the place was the smell. Like incense going through the ventilation. Not sure if that was special for the celebration or if it's always like that? It was totally what I was expecting. Just being in the place where some of my all time most favorite albums were created was very cool. --If a man is considered guilty for what goes on in his mind, then give me the electric chair for all my future crimes.-- Electric Chair/Batman/Prince

I've been in Paisley several times. But the first time was the best. I had a friend who was writing with George Clinton at the time. This was around 1993-94. He told me to meet him at Paisey. I expected to get kicked out right when I showed up, but I wasn't. I said who I was and that my friend Stacy was waiting for me. At first the lady at the desk had no idea what I was talking about. Then Stacy came out to greet me and everything was coo. I turned the coner into studio A and there was sitting George Clinton in all his glory. To make a long story short George was the greatest guy. he calls himself the "funky-farmer". At te time he was living in upper Michigan on a farm. We talked for almost three hours. It was great! So surreal, I thought I was going to faint. I could hardly look at him, cause I couldn't believe I was there. You know, I think I did faint.

Been there for the last 2 Celebrations.
Altho PP is not marked as such, I knew what it was the minute I laid eyes on it and I felt as if I had truely come home. Paisley Park is an amazing place that a person really must see for themselves. Not only is it beautiful, but you never know what may happen and that's part of the excitement. My 2nd day there, I ran into Prince in the hallway. Short version:I said HI, he said HI, and I proceeded to fall apart once he was out of sight becuz I couldn't believe I had been face to face with the man I had loved and admired for so long. I could've gone home after that becuz my dream of meeting him had come true, but needless to say I stayed and had the time of my life the rest of the week (I also got the opportunity to speak to Prince several more times during that week).I thot it was a once in a lifetime opportunity then but fortunately I was able to do it again last year. If there's a Celly this year, you know where to find me.

Never inside the actual building...got as far as the parking lot.
It was 1992 (i think) and the "Controversy Convention" took us on a bus tour of Minneapolis and Paisley Park was the grand finally...Only Elaine (I think that was her name) the tour coordinator got to go in and she came out with a GB poster. But that week long trip was fun. Met all kinds of peeps from around the world. Glam Slam was still around and the listening party for the album was held there. The NPG was there but no Prince. Met and got autographed pics of Mayte and Carmen Electra. I actually danced with Carmen Electra and her hot body guard. The girl is tiny. The last day of the convention the tour group ended up at this place called The Fine Line for a gospel brunch... by the way it was in Minneapolis that I first ventured into my first gay club...it was called "The Gay 90s," it was too obvious for me to ignore. So, um, I wandered in and was horribly shocked (I was still in the closet) yet strangely attracted to it all. My first visit was in November, 1996 when they were getting ready for the Emancipation mini-concert. I just walked right in on a Sunday evening. I couldn't believe the door was unlocked! I was politely told I couldn't be there, and that I had to leave. So I left.
My next visit was for the first Celebration. My next is detailed here: http://www.prince.org/msg...msg_510300. Pretty interesting story, to tell the truth. Dream come true for a HUGE FAN. Overall, it's a very cool facility. The vibe there is a little sketchy, in my opinion. But I'd gladly go back. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista
