Is Prince a hoarder? Does he need to practice feng shui? I have been watching that Hoarding show on TV. And for all the things Prince said he will release and never does. I started to wonder if he is a music hoarder?
Kind of like some of the people here who collect unreleased music. They don't share, they hoard!
It would explain why countless projects never came to fruition. Because Prince can't let them go!
feng shui Prince. Clear the clutter and new opportunites will arise. Make some money and keep the fans happy!

You don't think he "accidentally" hasn't leaked demos out?
Also, some of those songs wind up changing over time, or intended for someone else to sing.
He also had that studio equipment "yard sale", but I'm sure he has some of his memorabilia and trophies in storage.
When it comes to songwriters, they'll flip back through demos and journals, and see if they can make something out of it.
But the real question is what he does have in the vault, if he didn't deem it worthy to release at the time, or finish it up, then why would he want people to buy it?
I think he should do a series where he lets people hear him build a song from scratch to its completion. I think it would be of interest to music students and fans.
But the question is now about whether Prince should be reissuing the back catalog and making them into deluxe editions, because in the 70s and 80s, vinyl limited a lot of artists from going past 20 minutes a side. I think in the case of "Purple Rain", he prob. would've wanted to include more songs on it.
Supposedly JD Salinger has a bunch of manuscripts meant to be published after he died, but so far there's been no mention. And Mark Twain had it written in his will that the autobiography be released 100 years after his death.
Prince could decide today to destroy the tapes in the vault. It's no different than directors destroying negatives to a film and the archivists pulling their hair out decades later trying to restore a movie. It's his to do what he wants with it.

I'd guess too that Prince would place his creations in a neat artistic, beautiful way like he does in all apparent areas. And anyone who has been inside Paisley Park or pictures of his homes, has seen the smooth clean design he prefers for his surroundings

I think Prince has given demos to girlfriends, band members (less so now a days), family etc.
But not intended for general public consumption.
I think Prince does hoard his material. Someone said int his thread, it's not scatter all over. I should have said, intellectual or recorderd property hoarder.
I mean he has the right to do this, but he seems to have more unreleased stuff and cancelled projects more so than any other artists.
Were talking full production projects that were never finished or damn near finished.
I mean if he is at a stage where he is in a slump, why not just released some old projects for the next few years and then when he is out of the slump start releasing those songs.
Thats what I mean by hoarding. | |

I think he has a lot of material, but I think between what's made it out on the bootlegs, and what's made it out on Crystal Ball and Old Friends 4 Sale, plus the NPG music club, that's a lot of stuff. Also, you have to take into account that there's songs he has prob. reworked into new ones and weren't just from scratch.Tick Tick Bang and Raspberry Beret went through their processes over years, and I'm sure those who know his entire output could name more songs.
Also, I think the vault serves a purpose in contract negotiations. It served a purpose in people who signed up for the NPG Music Club.
When Prince said the internet is dead, he was talking about giving up on trying to distribute his music through it. I have to give him credit, he has tried every possible avenue in online distribution, and all of the lessons he's had to learn are passed on to every company who distributes their music in stores and online.I think it's difficult for a major artist to try to run a business. But it's not rocket science either. He could just talk to a lot of tour managers, use his own experience and lessons learned, make the calls to local promoters, have tickets go on sale day of the show, and cut the middlemen out.
I'd actually like to see him as a consultant, help create a theater in Minneapolis, maybe at the University, that people would enjoy seeing and hearing a concert. Not something he would have to run (although as a silent partner would have some money coming in), but just something that he helped put together and could be a place he'd play any time he wanted. Could also serve as a place for him to show off his memorabilia and people could get to hear some of the Vault. My opinion - a university would prob. do a great job in maintaining, safeguarding and upkeeping his master tapes, demos, writings, etc. I think he gets a kick out of inspiring people to create, and there's no better place than a university to do that.
It also attracts tourists to go check it out. It would be pretty cool to have some sort of "Prince's Minneapolis" documentary where he gets to recount his life living and working there.
I'm just hoping he could get VP of Warner Bros Records Kara DioGuardi (yeah, the same one who left Idol) and the Bronfmans to acquire the master tapes for a reasonable price (if he toured and played private shows and did commercials just to get the rights to the tapes, would be worth it) but once it's out of their hands, he still has to have people (or lawyers) approving songs for licensing if he doesn't want to be bothered with paperwork.
