I’ll probably end up buying these just so I can rip a good vinyl release to losses audio files while I wait from Prince to come down off his cloud and release the remasters.

Dammit, I'm trying not to add to my collection, but I'll probably have to get them to go along with the 180g Purple Rain.
Thanks for the info, though!

Interesting the use of the non-WB photo of Prince!

hmmm! | |

Not really. | |

Right, I wonder is the Prince and his team OK with this? Who knows??

Daaaaang. And just when I'm trying to curtail my spending.
I already have all of these on vinyl, but... We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Why vinyl? | |

Strange - they included Dirty Mind as a resissue after Prince just said in a Peach and Black interview that WB could no longer release that album, because the rights had returned to him. Maybe he wasn't telling the truth?

Funny you should ask, I just saw a headline that caught my eye and it's a pretty good article. (I can't get the text to copy/paste right)

Ugh, me too and MULTIPLE copies, I would always try to find one in better shape....it's a sickness!
A few months ago, I decided to try and organize my duplicates and do some give-aways and auctions. I have boxes and boxes and boxes...I got a few of them semi-organized before I got crazy and put them back away for another day. Unless it's something unique (like these), I've told myself I can't buy any more until I go through everything.

awesome.
now .. how in the world can we get albums like chaos & disorder and emancipation on vinyl!
| |

That may be the reason why it's only vinyl and no official re-issue cd. No total official re-issue or re-release but those 180g vinyls and SHM CDs. I don't see these albums ever being packaged like this again when they're issued as remasters.

Could this possibily be the re-masters? Prince was making a deal with WB recently, right?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Most likely a designer at Rhino needed to knock this banner out and just googled Prince and used whatever he found. Means nothing.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
indeed. i don't think prince would allow them to do anything at all with whatever album he's finally got his masters back from.
interesting.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Me too, i have doubles and/or multiple copies of nearly 100% of my Prince collection. I decide to offload some stuff on ebay or wherever, then i spot a bargain, a nice oop cd or a limited edition of something going cheap, and i buy it. Same with record stores, my local one sometimes has Prince items going for insanely cheap prices, and these are brand new, still sealed, so i always end up buying a couple or more of those too. It is a sickness......sort of.

Chaos and Emancipation were never released on vinyl.
We may get Chaos one day, but i don't think we will ever see Emancipation as a vinyl release.

They are being a bit tight with the vinyl weight.
200g vinyl is appearing more and more now.

Yeah, I love Prince vinyls.....
I might buy these if they are available in Denmark, or Europe.

Maybe? Or maybe the guys from the podcast.
In any case the law says 35 years.
And you can never ever believe what Prince says in this respect until you see it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No, this is just a vinyl re-issue of albums WB (apparently still) controls.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Even if they are not available in Europe, it will still be easy to track them down.

That's what the law says, but since that law went into effect right around the time of his first contract signing, it's difficult to know what the specifics of his case are. And there's also the fact contracts after that one may have changed the terms set out in the first one, right? Hell, for all we know, he could have signed away the rights to those albums for another 35 years right up until the last contract he signed with them.
Anyway, it is interesting that he said he owned Dirty Mind already. And that WB are doing a new pressing of it on vinyl. But it's also interesting that they are using a much more recent picture of Prince that they don't own to promote it.
It could very well be that they've worked something out on some level.

I doubt it. If a deal was made about re-masters then, this is not the way to approach it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah, but if I have to import these from USA/ outside Europe, I have to pay toll fee and tax fee then. Prince 4Ever.

wonder if they'll include the posters? (at least the dirty mind one. not sure if there was one in 1999).
what's the significance of the weight of the vinyl. is 180 a big diff. from the original weight?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
^ I'm not 100% sure --- but 180 is heavier, I think the general standard weight is 130 gram. Prince 4Ever.
