The Black Album Longbox

Has anyone else ever seen one of these before? I am wondering if anyone knows what it says on the small sticker on the front...

No - the longboxes were deleted by 1994. This is a photo of an original sealed version of the 1987 CD release...

Were 'long boxes' an American thing? They seem to be such a waste of paper, money, time, space...U get the picture.

In most cases, I agree, but the long box for Around the World in a Day was KICK ASS. It actually served a purpose...folded out to reveal the full album cover on the front, and the opposite side had lyrics printed over the color-saturated sky and trees, and it had a slit in the box where the CD went. Unfortunately, the CD was in a cardboard case, too, which doesn't hold up well.

Anyone else still have theirs?? smile

Yeah I think this is supposedly been authenticated as one of the 87 releases that were pulled. YORMEISTER had another opened one that he was selling and had the documentation to prove it so I don't doubt that this lonbox is one.

It's sealed though--I guess that keeps the value at $5,000 eek Wouldn't it be a trip if that inside that box was an old Pepe Willie CD instead? evillol

Are you talking about the little single that came in a 'Valentine' sleeve and sold through 1800NEWFUNK? I can't imagine that the retail release was avaiable in an actual longbox, anywhere!

I still have the Around The World In A Day longbox too!

I do, I do!!! It's special. biggrin

The longbox was originally done to compensate for what used to be there before it's arrival - the large vinyl albums that stood so tall.

At one time, I had them all. sad

Got rid of them because they took up too much space. The things we do... disbelief

I know as late as 92-93 there were still longboxes here in America. In 94 its possible there were a few more. Although I very much remember the 1994 release of the black album not being in a long box at Camelot Music where I live.

Me too. I had never thought it would go this far though and didn't think of myself as a collector, so I would rip shit up just to get to the CD or rip the shrink wrap off just to get to the vinyl.

I didn't realize I was gonna be a fan, and start buying up his catalog, until the mid'90s. By then it was pretty much too late.

I liked the artwork, so I carefully opened up the boxes...only one I still have is 1999 with DMSR. Besides the ATWIAD one.

I was also told to remove all the plastic shrink-wrap from everything, as it supposedly continues to shrink and can damage both the cover and the record inside.

Which is harder to find, 1999 with DMSR or without? I have both, just curious...
