WTF would you ever play that cd. If you listen to anything enough you will like it eventually. Just like how some people enjoy eating crushed glass.

Listened to the title track in the car last night on the way home from work and the song is a wonderfully done song-one of his best. Something sexy, but not nasty lol

this is the best girl cd he has ever done. hell its almost the best piece of music as a whole he has done in a while. this cd is slamming no matter what u guys hating think. if u listen with an open mind u would c this cd is smooth, funky ,lyrical as hell. a bit nice and nasty, it seriously has it all. if it were sade or some other well known artist not afilliated with prince, it would b all over the radio.

Yes this song is amazing, i've been saying this since it came out - its got the strings and sexy vocals. Its been overlooked by a lot of fans i think because its on that CD.

Just shows he can still knock out great songs when he chooses!

i don't listen to it very often, perhaps once every 2 months or so, but it's a nice album

and, indeed, the musicianship on it is top notch.

never quite understood why people hate it so much or go "i've never listened to it at

all". if you're a prince fan, and there's an entire disc of songs he wrote and played on,

why not give it a try, at least?

sure, people might not like bria, but it's at the very least interesting to hear some of

the stuff prince came up with, even if it is her on vocals. (her vox are nice enough).

Every Prince fan should at least give it a listen nod

So you guys convinced me to give it another spin and it's definitely growing on me.

The whole 3-CD set has taken a while. LotusFlo3er was the first, although after the first listen it literally sat on the shelf for close to a year before I rediscovered it and fell in love with it (not sure what space I was in the first time I heard it).

MPLSound took a while longer and a few more listens, but I have a few favs on that one too now.

I agree with the thoughts expressed here about the musicianship of Elixer. I don't know if Prince will ever find the right voice for the stuff he writes for women, as they'd literally need to be a female version of him to fit in exactly with the lyrics, the arrangement, etc... but this does have some gems, moreso than I gave it credit for initially (I still struggle with the sentiment behind "Kept Woman" though neutral)

Immersion is my favourite right now, and Here Eye Come and Elixer start and end the album really nicely.

And as soon as I see the word hating or hater I quietly step out of the room. Fanatics scare me a little to be honest. It's the lack of reasonable thought and argument that accompanies them.

If that were true, it wouldn't be by some process of osmosis - it would be because they got out there and promoted it. Prince's vanity projects and fuck-buddy albums die a death because he lets them.

It has highs and lows for me. A couple of the tracks I could never get into (Home, 2nite, Kept Woman) but some of the other tracks are certified jams. "Here Eye Come" is one of my favs, next time you listen to it, just focus on the guitar work underneath all the singing, it's really melodic. "Immersion" is another fav too, the sound is so atmospheric.

I really also like IMMERSION.

That track is so thick and deep sounding...almost diving underwater sounding...moody.

Elixer is a GREAT next track after it too.

If prince ever stop trying 2 enhance his treasured reputation 4 weirdness, he and his music would b welcomed more comercially. until then only those that can over look all the theatrics r gonna apreciate his music.

I think the "weirdness" factor is irrelevant.

Gaga is the most commercially produced (and viable) entity I can think of on the scene at the moment and she turned up to the Grammys in a freaking egg.

There are dozens (probably hundreds) of threads here devoted to "where Prince went wrong" and what he should do to become mainstream again, but ditching the so-called weirdness rates low on the list.

First of all, he needs to want to become mainstream again, and no-one's really certain that he even wants to do that (at least not the way things are structured at the moment).

I assume Bria wasn't shooting for mainstream success with Elixer, or else if she was, she backed the wrong horny pony. She did come out of it with some work to be really proud of though.

Bria's album is like any other of Prince's protoge albums. It plays it safe with Prince-lite formula songs, contrived seductive vocal performances, and banal lyrics where the woman plays out Prince's stereotypical fantasy of beautiful women as sensual romantic yearners who never leave their male designated boundaries.

Id hate for him to go the commercial route...the weirdness is what made me like him in the first place..becaus he DID / DOES not sound like anyone else. Once he got back to funk and stopped trying to do rap I was all in again.

If Prince laid his vocals on the tracks, everyone would be claiming that it would be one of his greatest albums! Honestly Exiler is a great album regardless of Bria's singing. The music is great and a style that's not so MPLSounding. It has a nice, fresh traditional R&B sound with a hint of dance. I like the album and it's worth listening to, especially the title track. It doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

Yes but some people listen to an album for the vocals...which is why it gets so much hate. The vocals are weak, downright horrible at some points. So the music is great, but this isn't an instrumental album. The vocals ruit it...Had Prince laid his vocals on the tracks it would have been one of his greatest because PRINCE CAN SING!! Bria can't. That is the difference. Bria is a vocalist who released a vocal album that was vocally weak, So yeah, it does deserve the hate it gets.. biggrin

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

A couple songs I liked right away, a few others have grown on me. I am not too bothered by the weak vocals(I own other artists cds with weak vocals like Brittney cause the songs are good and catchy) since I just like the words and music and usually sing over her voice anyway. She is like alot of pop singers, strong vocals not needed to make the songs ok. I wouldn't have paid for Elixer though, at least not more than say $0.99, so I'm glad it came for packaged in with Prince's cds!

It has nothing to do with her being a no name, lots of no names make it. Its trashed because her vocals are extremely weak. Had Tamar did this album or released hers, that would have been the best he's ever done. She is honestly, no better a singer than any of the other proteges! And I'd say her lack of live performances prove she knows that too! lol Her voice is something you hear in your average middle school talent show. Nothing special at all.
