Prince's musicianship on ELIXIR is astounding This whole joint is something special
the cd has unexpectadly grown and grown and grown on me-it sounds so laid back and multilayered
the musicianship is flawless
the duet ELIXER is on heavy rotation at the minute
its like a latter day head all suited and booted up

just happened to come up on shuffle today...you're absolutely correct.

yes, the music is very nice...reminds me of the Ingrid Chavez cd.
Elixer should have had a stronger voice and it would have been a great album

I'd consider LotusFlow3r one of his masterpeices of the last decade, but oddly enough I never even touched Elixer. Guess maybe I will?

If Prince laid his vocals on the tracks, everyone would be claiming that it would be one of his greatest albums! Honestly Exiler is a great album regardless of Bria's singing. The music is great and a style that's not so MPLSounding. It has a nice, fresh traditional R&B sound with a hint of dance. I like the album and it's worth listening to, especially the title track. It doesn't deserve the hate it gets. [Edited 2/27/11 11:07am] [Edited 2/27/11 11:08am] __________________________________________________

The title track is one of the best slow jams he's done in recent years. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I'm not quite as high on this album as the original poster but I do enjoy it and I think that it is a bit underrated. In some ways I like it more than MPLSoUND. There aren't really any fantastic tracks on it but I think that as a whole it is fairly consistent. I thought that some of the drum tracks were interesting and I'm always happy to hear Prince play the drums but it turned out those were the songs that featured the Dunhams. One slight criticism that I have is that maybe the album is a little too sedate sounding but I think that's what Prince (and I guess Bria) were going for. For me "Everytime" may have been the worst possible choice for the first (only?) single but realistically this album was never going to produce any hits.
I do find it strange that many people claim to have never listened to the album or maybe given it one spin and deciding that it was garbage. At the very least the title track is worthy of repeat listening and for me the whole album is surprisingly good.

Agreed. Great music-to bad he chose a singer instead of a vocalist. (Think Sade) 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

It has highs and lows for me. A couple of the tracks I could never get into (Home, 2nite, Kept Woman) but some of the other tracks are certified jams. "Here Eye Come" is one of my favs, next time you listen to it, just focus on the guitar work underneath all the singing, it's really melodic. "Immersion" is another fav too, the sound is so atmospheric. [Edited 2/27/11 12:12pm]

Most definitely... and also the arrangements, and largely organic sounds. Prince laid down some beautiful parts, and produced it perfectly. Minimal, but lush. "He's a musician's musician..."

Interesting thoughts all around. But still, after almost two years, I still can't seem to drum up the interest to pull it out of the case, put it in my stereo, and press 'play'...

It also has some of his durtiest lyrics in over a decade! give 'Something U Already Know' a good listen Futuristic Fantasy

We here at the Org are already nostalgic regarding Bria.

i don't listen to it very often, perhaps once every 2 months or so, but it's a nice album and, indeed, the musicianship on it is top notch.
never quite understood why people hate it so much or go "i've never listened to it at all". if you're a prince fan, and there's an entire disc of songs he wrote and played on, why not give it a try, at least?
sure, people might not like bria, but it's at the very least interesting to hear some of the stuff prince came up with, even if it is her on vocals. (her vox are nice enough).

It is, despite a few duff tracks, easily the best of the 3 Lotus Flower discs and the only one I ever return to these days. In my opinion, the final two tracks are worth more than the first 2 CDs put together.

This album is grown folks music. As such, kids - or those with the musical mentality of kids - usually miss or dismiss the true musical artistry from Prince. Some music requires time and contemplation - it is not disposable microwave Lady GaGa tripe that pollutes the airwaves all day.
