Do You Think 'Rasberry Beret' Would've Been Better On The Purple Rain Album Hello Orgers, while listening intently to Rasberry Beret, I can't help but to feel that it would've been better on the Purple Rain album than the ATWIAD album. When you listen to the lyrics of Rasberry Beret he sings about riding down to "old man Jonhson's farm." In the video, you can even see cartoon sketches of a barn scene. It made me wonder, was he singing about the deleted scenes in Purple Rain?

Co-sign. W/O it on ATWIAD, that album wouldn't have been anything special. Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

It would just not fit in on the PR soundtrack Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

I think it would've worked on Purple Rain, especially lyrically. Besides, it has a similar vibe to "Take Me With U". Of course, it fits on ATWIAD too.

Would not fit on Purple Rain Perfect on ATWIAD

Raspberry Beret does not fit on Purple Rain at all, but The Ladder and Temptation does.

It shares elements similar to Baby I'm a Star and Take me With you (mostly the violinish synth parts), but the entire vibe doesn't fit with Purple Rain at all.
It's definately perfect for ATWIAD.
Oddly, I think it would have worked in 3121 You're a real fucker. You act like you own this place--ParanoidAndroid <-- about as witty as this princess gets! I hope everyone pays more attention to Sags posts--sweething Jesus weeps

It would sound out of place on Purple Rain.

It's easier to fit in songs from 1999 on Purple Rain then from ATWIAD Have a look at 'The W2A: Euro Tour Song Survey' http://prince.org/msg/12/362417

Everyone who's saying 'wahhh, no wai', remember RB is from 1982, so the original version probably had different production that did sound more like the other material from that period, and would've received work done on it had it been used for PR any way.
I think it's stylistic similarity to Take Me With U is the only reason I'd say 'no', other than that - cool idea, never even thought about it, what with the lyrics and barn scene.

Rasberry Beret would've fit fine for the deleted barn scene. Jason

It fit PERFECTLY on Around the World in a Day. From the vibe right down to the arrangement. If anything, Take me with u did not fit on Purple Rain. One of the worst "duets" to ever get cut loose from an album. Filler at best.

This thread made me realise that Take Me With U should've been on Around The World In A Day. [Edited 2/23/11 3:14am]

Yes. I think it WOULD have been a better song for the 'take me with u' scene. Also electric intercourse would of been better for the 'beautiful ones' scene and 'irresistable bitch' would have been better for the 'darling Nikki' scene. definately.

I'm so glad random orgers don't have the power to tell Prince what to do. Purple Rain is what it should be. Even Take Me With U is perfect for the flow of the album, even though it isn't one of his best songs. I actually like it more than Baby I'm A Star, which is a song I like mostly because it told the world that a new star is coming. It was very suitable for the time.

No but back in the day I wished 17 Days was on Purple Rain The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
Remember there is only one destination and that place is U All of it. Everything. Is U.

I think it would have fitted Purple Rain too. It's on ATWIAD and fits that album perfectly, so I don't see a problem of it having ended up on that one.
However, "Erotic City", "17 Days", "She's Always In My Hair" and "Electric Intercourse" not having ended up on any official album release is one of the greatest mysteries of life.

I think it's perfect on the ATWIAD album
but I've said it before, that I think Prince took snippets of the idead of the PR Barn scene and put it in the song/video
If you read the deleted scene the lyrics 2 Raspberry Beret say the same thing.
And then it goes into the music of If the Kid Can't Make U Come

He takes the flower, slips it into his insert from Raspberry Beret: Built like she was, she had the nerve 2 ask me
Insert:If the Kid Can't Make U Come Darlin', I want you so bad. I can almost taste the smell of your skin.
Insert from: If the Kid Can't Make U Come Need I say more, baby?

Ok Onion head, you want to be literal? The song starts off "I was working part time at the five and dime, my boss was Mr McGhee". Now crowbar that into Purple Rain. I dare you, double dog dare you.

Yeah, but the movie didn't have castles in it either even if Darling Nikki mentions Nikki living in a castle.

i guess there was no room on the album 4 this song but would not be suprised if prince wished he could have squeezed this in. it must have been meant 4 the film, else prince must have been obsessed with alfresco barn loving... the cut scene would have been a scorcher, prince would have served time 4 arson
