Prince needs help to play a full concert?

On 2002 and 2004 tours it was all about Prince

.He sang all the songs ,i don't remember

he had backing vocals.

He was on stage for a 99% of the time.

Now days he sings one or two song then Shelbey takes over.

Is he in a bad shape or what is the reason he let other people do his job?

The OP is talking about the recent concert and he's right...sorta.

Yes, last night's show was more the length of concerts in the past, but Prince was not on the closer to 100% of the time like he use to be (according to reports).

However, if this is the compromise he needs to make I'm all for it. Sounds like last night was a lot of fun.

I live on the moon, and i've been to Prince concerts.

So if i can travel 240,000 miles that takes a few days to do then travelling from Serbia is a piece of piss.

I don't think that i must go to a Prince to see what is going on.

When you see Prince live in concert many things distract you

from actual music.

Just the fact that you see your

hero in front of you is a large % of

what you will think about the concert.

When somebody asks you how it was

you will say it was great

because you were seeing Prince live.

But when you listen to a bootleg the only thing that distract you

from the music is maybe a bad sound quality.

Anyway when you listen to a concert recording at your home

it's all about the music.

Whether you like the songs on One Nite lone tour you must admit

that Prince was on fire on that tour,

like he had some super hero energy

because all the concerts from that tour were amazing.

Musicology Tour wasn't as great as

ONA tour but it was a very good funk rock soul revue.

Prince was at the stage full time and

he was doing all the lead vocals.

I love Prince but to my ears

this Welcome to America tour sounds he isn't trying at all.

like he isn't feeling the performances.

And he started being a guest at his concerts

you got Shelby,Sheila and here and there a Prince song pops in.

And the set list starts sounding like same ol tired Michael Jackson set list he did in his solo career.

I don't want to be a Hater

but Prince is capable of so much better.

He is faking the funk . sad

So Spinlight you like a concert where Prince sings two of his songs, one cover then Shelby sings some Riahana and one or two more songs in a row ,

after that Sheila sings one and Prince comes

back doing two more songs before the girls take over?

You know damn well P has always had people on that stage doing things with him. You know he has! You might not have been to any of his shows, but I often see you make posts about his guitar playing and whatnot, I can tell you know your shit. So why is it different now than, say, LoveSexy? Why is it different now than Diamonds and Pearls, Nude, ACT I? P has always liked to showcase his band's solo talent at live shows.

spin, you make damn good valid point. i think people need to stop and realize putting on a big show takes strenuous planning, not only that but incorporating his band into it is what i think makes a prince show. we've seen a shit ton of changes in his band line up through out the years so why wouldnt he showcase there talent throughtout the show?

I think it's because people don't like the music he is showcasing with these soloists, which is what it is. Opinions/assholes. But let's not trip and act like Shelby J singing a song is somehow sacrilege to Prince's career.

I remember the Small Club bootleg and it has a certain organ player singing, what, 2-3 songs? Pretty sure we all know that that show is tops from head to toe and without Boni, the show would be a shadow of itself. Not to say Shelby J is necessarily worth the same, artistically speaking, but that's entirely subjective.

What an ignorant reply. I have travelled a lot to see concerts myself, but not everybody has the opportunity to do that, financially and otherwise. And somebody from Serbia probably needs a visa to travel to most countries.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Awww, that sucks, I have a couple friends in Serbia. I hope you get to see Prince one day live, nothing compares to seeing him life. The boots of it don't do him justice. When you do see him, it will change your life.

Now about your original post...I somewhat agree with you. Prince was on fire during ONA and Musicology. Not to say he isn't amazing now...cause he is!! And I've been privileged to see him live on this tour and to me he didn't give it away too much. Shelby and company have sang really well on the songs they've performed and at the shows I went to, no one took over too much. Prince had the stage 85% of the time, he even came on while his opening acts were performing.

This tour is more about showcasing other acts. That's what he said when he announced the tour, remember? So it really isn't all about Prince like it was before. He's always had others on stage, so nothing new. I've always thought Prince shared his stage too much, but that is the type of generous musician he is, which shows a different/pleasant side of him that I wish people would remember more often.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I'm hearing the counterpoints, but sorry, as someone has seen Prince shows in the recent and not so recent past, Prince is not so much the core presence onstage at his shows.

3 hour shows with him barely leaving the stage. Yes, he had others there and their presence was highlighted, but no matter where he was, he was onstage and doing something remarkable.

His 3 hour show last night sounded really fun and it would be a good mix to keep things this way, or similar instead of shows only lasting around 2 hours, but the powerhouse factor is not the same.

I'm not knocking the change, just acknowledging the OP's view.

so stupid. Dude is playing 3 hours concerts! He still had more energy than most kids.

The whole "I have heard the boots and this sucks" just is not valid to me. It's not the same as being there. Prince is older, and no I don't really care to hear a Shelby tune, but a human being has to pace themselves.

I do 3 hour gigs too, and we get 10-15 minute breaks every hour. Imagine if the Prince concert just stopped entirely. Would that be better? It's normal to grab a glass of water during th ecourse of an evening or, in prince's case, change outfits.

The difference is that now Prince keeps the flow going for a longer period of time. I think his older shows had a bit more energy, true, but there was also a lot of downtime where Prince might have spent time talking or some silly dramatic thing. It wasn't necessarily better than a song featuring another singer (which he did in 1998, too)

Now the show goes on, and he features his band rather than just build tension.

Of course, and what you are missing when you listen to a boot is SEEING the concert!

Those who go enjoy it for the whole experience, not just for the percentage of time Prince used his voice. Last night was the 9th show I've seen, and I sat in shitty seats and it was awesome.
