North Bay Man Recovering from Injuries Suffered at Prince Concert

North Bay Man Recovering from Injuries Suffered at Prince Concert
SAN RAFAEL (KRON) – A North Bay man is recovering from injuries he suffered at a Prince concert Wednesday evening.

Perry Litchfield told KRON 4’s Terisa Estacio that while at the concert, Prince gave him his guitar and he’s not happy that stage crews took it back from him.

“He tossed the guitar and I caught it. Then I was dragged to the ground, I don’t know what happened at that point. There were a lot of people around me then I realized I was bleeding on my hand,” Litchfield said.

Litchfield showed cuts and bruises he suffered on his hand and back.

A stage hand then walked over to the man and told him he needed the guitar back.

When he went back to his seat, the person who took the guitar from him brought him a guitar pick.

When the show was over, Litchfield went to the stage area and asked for the guitar back but was told no.

“I really feel like I should have the guitar, I’m not dwelling on the injuries that happened, I’m concerned about the event and about the fact that I should have gotten that guitar,” Litchfield said.
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

i just dont understand why Prince pretends to give the guitar away, then has his bodyguards take it back. Either give the guitar away or dont. Plain and simple. Does he really think people won't know that he is taking these guitars back?

I am sorry for this man if he got injured. But the whole pretending to give the guitar away is ridicolous.

He throws guitars too much, so it was going to happen sooner or later.

Really, when Prince gives his guitar to fans how hard would it be for him to say "This is to hold for a little while, not to keep".

Common sense should tell him that casual fans will wrongly assume the guitar is theirs to keep.

But wouldn't most think that it's just part of the show?

why does he need to give it for a few minutes?

Either give it away or dont. He could give away a couple of guitars a year and it wouldnt cost him that much. Or he shouldnt give away at all.

I would be thrilled at the opportunity to hold his guitar for a few minutes, get a good closeup look at it, see how heavy it is and how it feels in my hands, and pose for some pictures with it. Wouldn't you?

I think it's a bit of fun and showmanship and has the potential to give someone a brief thrill - "I caught Prince's guitar", etc...

Yet I'd imagine, particularly in a country that requires coffee cups to have "Warning: hot" printed on them, that he'll cut it out of his act sooner rather than later because people are so hard done by because they possibly spent a few minutes thinking they'd been given a free guitar, when in fact they had to give it back.

The injuries are unfortunate - I admit I've always wondered how there hasn't been more of these in the scramble to be the one who catches it (maybe even worse than wedding bouqets! wink )

I'm more than happy to be corrected on that, but I did hear that as a result of a law suit (I think involving McDonald's?) where a lady spilt hot coffee on herself and blamed the restaurant to the tune of many $$$ that many places now label their coffee so as to protect against litigation.

Whether it's literally required by law or not I'm not sure, but if you can be sued for not doing so then...same diff, really.

I've heard about that, but I didn't know that all (most?) places needed to have a warning on the coffee cup.

grow a spine ya big baby, most peeps would give their left nut for a brief chance of holding Prince's guitar. He's probably not going to do that again now for fear of prosecution ....... sad

This is how you do it....

This is why I don’t buy the really good seats. If Prince handed me the Honer I would probably just fall over dead. And if I didn’t die, I would haul my white ass out of the stadium faster than a roadrunner on crack.

Okay...... this guy obviously wants to make some cash, and he is definitely not a musician. Anyone knows that a musician's instrument (especially a guitar) is his/her treasure, baby, spouse whatever you want to call it. The guy knew better than to think Prince was going to give up his partner in crime. Stop being spoiled, and be happy that you were able to hold an instrument played by a legend! cool

This reminds me of one time when I was street performing w/ my harmonica I got so into my inner john popper I threw my harmonica in the air where it landed in the soft plushy handlebar mustache of a passerby. When I went to retrieve it a tussle ensued.

I think it's cool and exciting how Prince tosses his guitar out into the audience, but he really should stop doing it. He needs to start considering the lowest common denominator in situations like this and how there are a great many people who attend his shows who are either unaware of how this works (meaning, nobody gets to keep the guitar) and wind up disappointed, or who are just whiny babies who feel they 'deserve' to keep it merely because they caught it.

Of course, maybe Prince gets off on playing this little game. biggrin Maybe he likes it when he dangles that piece of candy in front of the baby, then snatches it back and the baby gets upset. lol
