Yeah, I must that unreleased album by Vanity 6 was good (at least the info that we know of). With cool songs like Vibrator, G-Spot, 17 Days, and Sex Shooter recorded for the album along with a few outtakes from the first album considered as well. The Apollonia 6 album was OK and yes it was clear that Prince became lost interest in the album but, he did give them Sex Shooter and Blue Limousine. Those 2 was cool songs. Now as for those other songs that he had for that project that was either given away or put them in the vault, those would have made the album alot better than what it was. He gave away some cool cuts that would have made that Apollonia 6 album tight. I mean, it's outtakes from the first Vanity 6 album that was considered for both projects. Moral Majority is a prime example of that. It make u wonder but, who knows?

I never knew that Extraloveable was an Apollonia 6 outtake. Are you sure about that? It was written and recorded long before shooting the movie began.

As far as Sex Shooter is concerned, I am so used to Apollonia singing it that I can´t really imagine it any other way. I first heard the other versions years, if not a decade, after watching Purple Rain, so to me it is definitely Apollonia´s song now. lol

Sure, he took the best songs and gave them to other people but there are still a couple of really strong songs on the A6 album, and they probably meant a lot to Prince, too, since he dug one of them out and compared it to one of Jimmy Jam and Terry´s songs, accusing them of biting off of his songs (Blue Limousine and Borrowed Love, you know, on his 3121 website years ago).

I like the song Sex Shooter and it has all the ingredients of a great, mid 80s Prince classic in it. The first few seconds always give me an aural orgasm. I love that sound, the video and all.

"Xtra Lovable" and "No Call U" were both done during the sessions for the followup to Vanity 6's first album. Forgot to add "No Call U" up there.

I thought Extra Loveable and No Call U were both recorded and considered for the first Vanity 6 album, not the unreleased second one.

During the completion of the Apollonia 6 album, it was evident Prince was losing his interest in the concept. He left them with one great solid tune, "Sex Shooter", and gave the rest away!

"The Glamorous Life" - given to Sheila E

"Xtra Lovable" - unreleased

"Take Me With U" - given to Prince & the Revolution

"17 Days" - given to Prince & the Revolution

"G Spot" - given to Jill Jones

"Manic Monday" - given to the Bangles

While the rest of the songs on the App6 album are okay, none quite hit the pop sensibility of "Sex Shooter". I've always thought the song was an instant classic hit which deserved a better vehicle. So, who should he have given it to?

Personally, I think the song sounds better coming from the perspective of a man. The obvious choice would be to give it to Prince, but maybe it could've worked better coming from the Time (especially the rap at the end).

Thoughts?

Perhaps you should use Google - after lecturing me about not doing research before posting - look at the below:

http://www.angelfire.com/...onia6.html

This is by Per Nilsen.

I personally love the Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 albums, i like their high tempo, humour and the kind of 'lets get this down' quick / kick ass feeling of the albums!

Ooh, Ooh, She, Wa, Wa is so damn cool especially the slow down part!

A Million Miles (I love you) is an excellent song unfortunately its sung in a lower register and not quite as well as Prince's far superior unreleased version.

Agreed Prince did take off a lot of tracks intended for it, but then again he wrote them all so who's to argue.

I think it flows as a good album even without the 'missing' tracks.

I think the tracks released on Sheila'E's Glamorous Life and Romance 1600 could also have gone to either...i can hear the track Romance 1600 going on a Vanity/Appolonia album!

l though there is more actual real musicianship ie. sax etc on Sheila's albums, the Vanity/Appolonia albums are more about 'fun' .

The answer to your question is obviously 'Appolonia 6' - too crude for any other side project although

I also sometimes think that Sex Shooter sounds really like it should be sung by a man by its obvious ejaculation references and 'kiss the gun' phrase! It could have gone to the Time perhaps but think its fine where it is!! They had 'Chili Sauce' wink

Its commented by biographers that Prince often gave songs he considered too crude to put his name against to his side projects instead as another outlet for them!!

O' yeah, Prince should have sang Sex Shooter himself! Apples' part in the movie & the most of the songs for that project should have been Sheilas'. Honestly she was his female side-kick & a respected musician. Let's not mention her star power was the reason Krush Groove got the ok to be produced. The Revolution should have had their on albums without Prince but with Cymone and/or Dickerson. The Time could did their thing @ Paisley too. DAMN!

You might be right about that - sometimes I am off with respect to the actual release of the Vanity record. Even still, though, equally classic tracks that seem like an easy fit but its as if he was purposely holding back.

Sex shooter was perfect for Vanity. She had that it factor during that time.

Vanity had a sexy, dirty, nasty vibe that matched perfectly with Prince.

Apollonia was sexy, but wasn't nasty enough. (cute) tinkerbell

Apollonia was a last minute substitute for Vanity.

Neither women could sing. shake

Oh yeah, thanx! U gotta include that cut there. That's a hot cut also. Prince left them with a few hot ones. I do wonder how would that sex shooter sound if Prince took instrumental of the extended version and mixed Vanity's vocals along with a blend of his in there, how would that sound? I think it would have been great. That unreleased Vanity 6 version is great. Vanity's vocals was good but, the Apollonia 6's version (the instrumental) Prince took it to another level.

I'm probably the minority but I like the Apollonia 6 version. boxed

I do too. It worked for the time period, the video and all. I always liked Appolonia more than Vanity anyway though, and this song just reminds me of that.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol
