Lotus Question

I don't nit pick. I'm just an inquisitive sort. It seems to me that a good amount of people don't really like Lotus Flow3r album. I like it and it could be about taste. It seemed like a lot of guitar on it to me Which I thought other people were looking for in a Prince album. My question is- To those who dislike the album, do you think that it is a bad album?

I think it is safe to say that people who dislike the album probably think it is bad.

Good album imo, about 8/10.

I agree the guitar on it is actually quite good, and I like the production, the "live" feel to this album.

Not a classic though, but a good album.

Colonized Mind,

Dreamer,

$,

Boom,

those are great.

I'll bite. It's an okay album, but it's boring and lifeless to me. There's not much joy in it. I can put it on and think it's decent enough, but it doesn't inspire me or move me much.

I find very little worth relating to in the lyrics as well, which is rather a big stumbling block.

Lol. I get it. What I was trying 2 get at was from a fan perspective, did folks think Prince did a bad job completely on the album or was it more that Prince didn't live up 2 expectations.? I personally thought that the lyrics in some parts were sort of trivial but I rather liked the production more on Lotus than on recent albums. I also thought there was some outstanding moments too.

I think it's a bit uneven in the beginning, but pretty solid.

I think it is difficult for some people to separate the rock disc from the floptastic MPLSound disc and so it taints the waters, to to speak. Lotusflower is right up there with TRC as far as albums you can tell Prince was having fun making.

The MPLSound side, to me, is lifeless and dead. Sounds like Prince is simply going through the motions he used to, while not really recapturing the feeling. (Hence why I feel backtracking to the 80s sound is bad for Prince and a more contemporary rock sound is where he should be going. IE, the Lotusflower disc.)

Lotus was a grower for me, though. I did not feel it was that hot at first. Love Like Jazz might be difficult to get into (the Montreux version sold me). I just love the dreamy, hazy purple funk type of atmosphere a lot of the tracks give off. The intro and outro, Boom, Money, Colonized Mind, and Feel better all have a dreamy quality to them. I can see where people would get lost in that and not really like it.

Spinlight - U summed up a large portion of my own leanings. That dreamy quality is a fair enuff description. It took 3 listens and I could appreciate the direction in which the music was going. Sonically I have no problems with the album at all. I agree also about the backtracking definately. Also with the contemporary possibilities! Thanks.

It was the first release in a long time that actually felt like an album, to me. Like there was some sort of overarching theme behind it. nod

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

My dad used to have a Lotus, one of the older ones, it was always breaking down, but when it was ok it was faster than shit off a shiny shovel.

I really liked the whole CD, even some of Bria's songs. And I hope that Prince was only kidding about the 'no more candy for you' tune biggrin we could all use a lift headbang
