Prince used to hide his most amazing sounds...

Prince has usually hidden small solo parts and amazing stuff either on an instrumental part of the song further out in the song like the bass drum programming in Automatic, the guitar in I Could Never Take The Place Of Your man, the Sheila E drums on Life Can Be So Nice. Either that, or he used to excite the listener with some magical treasures popping up every now and then in a cool, smooth and accurate way. The way the bass does minor changes throughout songs like Head etc... The singing snare hit on different parts of the snare on Lady Cab Driver for a extra dynamic feel. How it changes throughout the song in a so sophisticated way, yet sexually primitive. How the guitar and the voice of Prince is complimenting eachother on Paisly Park. These are all just available for people who really is listening to him.

His new wave inspiration made his music very minimalistic with the bass, since the kick was very bass heavy with the gated reverb and compressor. And since his music very often was based on a funk groove. It could sound like very simple funk to some people. It's not hittin as many notes per second as The Meters on the bass, or Parliament. I've noticed that nerds that are very focused on technique and doing something difficult would skip a Prince song, thinking that it doesnt have more to offer. Then they put on some bootsy or parliament. These songs have more bass notes or hits a minute, but is not neccesarily any harder to play. Prince has always used the unpredictability of mixing new wave with sexy funk as his weapon. Making him even more hard hitting imo.

My conclusion is that many people are missing out on his music, and doesn't really understand the concept. THe good thing is that there's alot of undiscovered treasures still, cause people are not looking for his treasures. And people that doesnt understand his style, will skip a song before they here the parts that probably would make the more of a fan. Sorry for writing too much. Any thoughts on this? Am i far out maybe. Sorry for my bad english. I'm a Norwegian, still getting better wink

Good stuff in this post,"I've noticed that nerds that are very focused on technique and doing something difficult"

I swear I only encounter maybe 1 in every 10 trained musicians that can actually come up with an original interesting sound/melody. It is definitely not about how many notes you hit or how intricate the pattern, but rather what your notes, texture, and melody structure are saying from wider perspective.

Prince has got a lot of musical imagination in him.
