nice to see that many people actually include a track from "xpectation" in their top 10 list.
especially "xpedition" is an awesome track.
seems that a lot of people like his post 2000 instrumental tracks as i'm seeing quite a few of them pop up in these lists.
i'm trying to think of one that i really don't like but i can't come up with any. gamillah, arboretum, sensual everafter, heck even disco jellyfish, he's still on top of his instrumentals i'd say.
also very nice to see "pearls b4 the swine" get some mentions since it was ridiculed a lot when it was first released. as it stands, i find myself going back to it quite often and it really is just a very beautiful sweet song.
same goes for "all the midnights in the world" which got very offensive reviews starting with the listening parties for planet earth. people were saying it was the worst thing they'd ever heard from prince. i was kind of convinced that i probably was the only one who thought it was really the best song on planet earth, lol.
anyway, it's refreshing to see a thread where people mention the songs that they love the most as opposed to just randomly taking swings at songs and dismissing them off hand.

I really liked Xpectation when it came out, although nowadays I'd probably plump for NEWS - I still really like Xogenous and a few others though.

oh i'm the same. i like xpectation a lot and i'll listen to it all the way through a couple of times a month.
but NEWS just packs more of a punch and makes you prick up your ears more and say "wow, what's going on here?"
yet my favorit of the instrumental albums is probably "cnote". all in all 2000-2003 was just one good release after another.
makes me wonder where he could have taken that vibe had he not chosen to make an album that was as commercial as "musicology". although, perhaps he felt he'd exhausted that vibe and just wanted to get back to something a bit more straightforward.

I hate to do this, but some great orger pointed out that "Colonized Mind," was pretty much a remake of the late Miriam Makeba's "Quit It." You can look it up on You Tube. It is sad that he didn't credit her. You have to listen to at least 40 seconds of it to see it. If it had been the other way around, Londell McMuffin or someone would have done something. Mind would've been either #1 or close to it, if I thought it was a Prince original. His guitar playing was epic enough to get in my "almost there," section.

Great to see Te Amo on someone's list other than mine. No, it's not the greatest song ever, and perhaps a poor choice as a single, but it is much better than the treatment it gets on this site.

I've liked the song ever since I first heard it and played it on repeat back then. It's also one of those Prince songs that I find myself humming when doing something. Actually I could have placed it higher on my list.
Despite the very AOR type of sounds used on it, it's quite interesting musically as well. I just wish there would have been a little bit more edge to the sounds - a little bit more like the stuff on "Parade".

1. Dance 4 Me 2. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed 3. F.U.N.K. (Yeah, I know.) 4. Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance 5. Song Of The Heart 6. Call My Name 7. That song we got teased with just the snippet of, right before NPGMC closed down. I can't remember the name of it. Though, the little I heard, sounded like it would have been a keeper.
Sorry, I just don't have 10 from this period.

Maybe they're not the same people, or you know, they like a few songs but not the whole album itself

Suspiciously a lot of similarities, but nowadays I'm not sure enough to call it coincidence or something else.
Great orger who found this out though, my compliments! Have a look at 'The W2A: Euro Tour Song Survey' http://prince.org/msg/12/362417

'Colonized Mind' isn't in my Top Ten because to me, it's a remake of 'The War.' Maybe in the retooling it bumped up against "Quit It." I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Well, since Prince sings "No Responsibility," almost the same way Makeba sings "No Responsibility," that is enough of a letdown for me, but even the whole vibe of the song is the same. Other than the guitar, I don't see too much of the War in there. I'll put it to you this way, anybody who thinks Phil Collins "I Wish It Would Rain Down," is a remake of "Purple Rain," will be more shocked by this if you check out Miraim Makeba:

Listen to 1:35 to 2:00....if you don't think Prince ripped this off, you could possibly be a huge Tony M fan.
