^Basically, we consider the version on iTunes and Podbean as the 'proper' show. The one on the forums is just the unedited raw recording of the entire conversation. So there's about 45mins extra chat on there that probably isn't of any interest to casual listeners. One of our most common criticisms from listeners is that the shows are often very long and that we tend to 'ramble on' sometimes (which is probably true lol). So we've been trying to tidy the show up a bit - cut out some of the 'fat' so-to-speak. But we also know that some people like the 'ramble', so it's really up to you. It's not like there's any 'secret info' or anything. Just more of the same. There's no obligation to sign up, we just thought some people might like to hear it in it's raw form.

... And it's also a bit of homage to the Rave Un2 / Rave In2 kerfuffle lol

Agreed - that is probably my least played of the official albums..

Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Captain totally dissed two tracks !

one was most skippable track and one he just said 'pass'

LOL smile

that ain't no lovefest .

only two tracks dissed on rave ?....thats a lovefest biggrin ...i would diss at least half the album...the only tracks i can listen to now are man o war...i love u but ....wherever u go and prettyman and beautiful strange on the remix album.....the rest range from bland to dreadful....this is the low point of prince's career for me....newpowersoul (if you call that a prince album ) is better than rave for me...

ah, it's the same as on here. Get 4 prince fans to discuss an album and you'll get 4 very different opinions. It's rare you're gonna find a song everyone agrees is rubbish.

As a suggestion maybe the Peach and Black guys could force themselves to talk a bit more about a song if they dislike it because usually if one of them doesn't like a song they just say so and that's it whereas if they like it they'll wax lyrical for a while...

That's a fair point (MC, I am looking in your direction razz ). For me even a "bad" Prince song has some interesting bits.

Except for "The Arms of Orion," that's just pure crap. wink

I don't like it but I do think a simple piano/voice version could be much better than the released version. It's just far too syrupy for my tastes.

Nice one guys. And always because, even if I don't agree with you, the differing opinions are discussed politely, which encourages further listening, and I still get to have some good laughs. razz

First time I've heard one of these podcasts and found it enjoyable to listen to fans critiquing a Prince album at length, especially one not held high in regard by most fans. I really enjoyed the total love for "Strange but true" by one of the reviewers - made me want to listen to the track again in a different light - one of the little joys of listening to music 'with someone else's ears'.

Looking forward to hear more of these podcasts - good work fellas.

P.S. Can't understand the respect for "The Greatest Romance..." - can't stand it. Urgh.

That's my favourite thing about the podcast. If there's a song I dislike and I hear someone really saying wonderful things about it it makes me want to give it another listen and see what I missed.

Just caught up and listened - Boy you guys are fair handed. I did expect that actually given your past reviews.

Gonna listen to Un2 and In2 now just to jog my memory on the tracks, especially ones like Man O' War which I just always skipped after the opening notes because I couldn't stand them.

Let me review the album:

Rave--Godawful piece of shit. It's cutesy, has a clunky beat is not very clever. The melody is really lame. He should have kept it in the vault.

Undisputed--An awful song. Chuck D is wasted with a weak rap. The music is bad, the beat is bad. Ittts baaad.

Greatest Romance--standard r&b song with ok orientel music.

How Wit U--Clunky dance tune, but Eve's rap is fun.

Tangerine--wimpy, awful, sugary glop. God, I hate this song.

So Far, So Pleased--nice little pop ditty. Decent guitar riff. Nice vibe. The first really good song.

The Sun, The Moon, The Stars--Wonderful, moody, silky vibe. Really strong song.

Everyday Is A Winding Road--Great remake. I like it a lot, beyond the Larry bit.

Man O War--lovely, powerful, kicks my ass.

Baby Knows--smashing pop song. Great chorus. Just loads of fun and frolic.

I Love U, But...--Classic ballad. One of his best songs.

Silly Game--great remake of a motown type song. Love the strings.

Strange But True--Has good melodies, but it seems like filler. There are way too many amazing instrumentals to like this. Toejam may need mental health..lol hugs.

Whatever--More shit.

Prettyman--Ok funk song. More James Brown cops. Take it or leave it.

Overall pretty mediocre album beyond the great ballads...Captain! lol

Captain needs to find his feminine side..lol

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Let me review the album: Rave Un2 / Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic:

Rave--Godawful piece of shit. The melody is really lame. He should have kept it in the vault. I AGREE! star 1 star only,

the remix is a little better: star star

Undisputed--A funny and funky "cartoon" song star star star

Greatest Romance--Best pop song on this album, sounds a bit like 7/ The Most Beautiful Girl kind of a song.

the 8 minute version - wow!! star star star star star

Hot Wit U--I like the Nasty Girl remix, however nothing special star star star

Tangerine--Great and I love the extended little extra, beautiful star star star star

So Far, So Pleased--I can't stand this ordinary pop rocker, one of the worst star

The Sun, The Moon, The Stars--Wonderful, moody, silky vibe. Really strong song. I agree! star star star

Everyday Is A Winding Road-- absolutely CRAP sad No stars....

Man O War--lovely, powerful, kicks my ass. the Rave Un2 is fantastic... star star star star

Baby Knows--another crap song, I hate it. star 1 star for the rock attempt

I Love U, But...--Classic ballad. One of his best songs. I agree! star star star star star

Silly Game--great song, star star star star

Beautiful Strange -- the song is a Prince CLASSIC star star star star star

Strange But True--I like this spoken song a lot..... star star star

Prettyman--Amazing funk song. Reminds me of The Work and Sexy MF, great with another "brag song" from Prince. Me like a lot, especially the extended from Rave In2. heart star star star star star

Overall : a pretty good pop album, with a few fun and funky tracks:

about star star star

or Rave Un2 6/10 and Rave In2 about 7/10

have listened to half of the extended version....always like to listen to you guys...there aint many bigger lovers of prince music than me but ....if i have a small criticism....when i listen to some of the podcasts...i feel that sometimes its a bit of a lovefest going on with his music with the podcast team....hardly ever do i hear you guys pan a track or say it isnt very good....and lets be honest...prince has released his fair share of clunkers in his time as well as many brilliant tracks....so i have heard the reviews of the first 4 tracks on rave on the podcast ( one of prince's least popular albums) and no one has anything negative to say on the leading songs to one of his worst albums?....

.

the first song isnt a bad track but sounds like the weak outtake from the 80s that it is..

.

undisputed...the second track just doesnt work and is the first of many bad duets on the album

.

greatest romance...the lead off single?...is one of the worsed first singles prince has ever released from an album...its well recorded and has some nice touches but its just bland bland bland and its no wonder the album failed on the back of this song

.

and hot with u...i cant bring myself to listen to this track anymore...its just soo devoid of any real ideas and just bland again...

.

the only saving grace for this album are' i love u but i dont trust u anymore ' and ' prettyman '....two great tracks for me and i have a soft spot for wherever u go and beautiful strange on the remix album but ...no...prince was lost during this time for me....

.

apart from that...i love your stuff boys...look forward to more from you all...cheers..

[Edited 2/9/11 16:46pm]

So much hate for Undisputed on here....I think it is FUNKY and I've always loved it!!!!!!!

If you are honest both studio versions of Rave are pretty poor when compared to the rocking live 1988 versions !
