I almost instinctively began singing to "Te Amo Corazon" at one point during the Gil Evans track. Is that what you were going for?

It sounds almost exactly like "The Question Of U"!
Not?

Didn't hear it until I listened to the Gary Burton track. Interesting. Another song it seems Prince has pilfered from. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I'm relieved to hear that someone else can hear it as well
It's more apparent in this version here

After use, listen back. You'll discover two very different tunes.

No.

Two completely different tunes.
The only song "The Question of U" borrows from is "Under the Cherry Moon" imo. But Prince is allowed to steal from himself.

I can kinda-sorta hear it in the Gary Burton version, if I strain real hard to fill in the pieces with my ears. But it isn't close enough for me to think that Prince has ever even heard this song, let alone lift from it, unless some other artist that's more in Prince's wheelhouse of influences and/or exposure did a version of it.

Not at all... Te Amo Corazon, maybe. But not at all TQOU.

U serious? I don't hear it on any level.

Very vague resemblance - but a nice listen... "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"
"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

The Gary Burton version has the same melody as Question Of U played on the xylophone. I'm the last guy to want one of my musical heroes' body of work tarnished by similar findings like the origins of Kiss, Colonized Mind etc, but I hear the link between the OPs postings and the Prince song as clear as day. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I hear fragments of it that are similar and bits that are reminiscent, but like I said, my brain has to fill in the blanks on this song to make the melody identical.

I can understand that. I don't think it's identical either, but the similarities are close enough for me to make a judgement call and say Prince heard a rendition of this on more than one occasion prior to writing Question Of U. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Are you sure you just didn't let out a long greasy sing songy squirrel fart that confused your ears? "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

I really don't get this at all. I even specifically listened to the xylophone and still don't see it.

Maybe. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

4get about seeing it..............I don't HEAR it. If I play the notes from each song, they DON'T match at all.

nonsense any 'similarities' are completely random [Edited 2/2/11 8:16am]

With the exception of "Had U" and "Tambourine", you could probably take every song in the world and find another one that "sounds" similar.

Yes. Like a grain of salt borrows from the sea, or a blade of grass borrows from the field. Like a leaf borrows from the tree, or a kiss borrows from the meal. Can we get 2gether

If you really PLAY them you'll recognize that the NOTES MATCH PERFECTLY!!
Jesus, the melody is almost identical !!!!
Some of you guys, especially those advising Q-Tips, would fit better to a "Justin Bieber" forum... I mean really....
