HA! I threatened to name my son "Prince Skywalker." Of course I was just kidding, but it would get a from my wife. Seriously, a kid should have his own name to go with his own identity, rather than have Prince's reputation following the poor kid. And yeah, he's gonna get his ass kicked.

the only celebrity i love is prince, and thats just because i feel like i know him.....hard to explain, but i just got a feeling, u cant tell me that u have never felt any love for someone u have never met! And im pretty Young right now, and as i become older and actually start having kids i probably wont consider those names anymore, i will probably end up using them as middle names..if anything. And what is so wrong about loving someone u have never met.....thats like asking how can u hate hitler?....u have never met him. I feel there is nothing wrong with loving everyone around you, but there is a point where it gets creepy. I'm not trying to burst any dreams whatsoever, but Prince doesn't care for you and you know that. The only things you know about him are the things he is saying in his music and in his interviews. He doesn't say everything, he has a private life. From what he does say, you can draw your own conclusions about him, that doesn't mean you're right. You can feel like you know him, that doesn't mean you're right. And wouldn't it creep you out if people around the world you have never met love you so much they'd name their babies after you? Oh, and love has certain levels. The love you have for a close friend or a family member can make you decide to name your child after him or her, merely adoring someone from a distance shouldn't. And I'm afraid you're mixing real love for someone up with having a crush on someone you don't know. Which are two completely different things. But since you are young, you'll have plenty of time to think about my advice ;) Oh, and the Hitler comment is so utterly idiotic I'm not going to comment on that one, sorry. Would be a waste of time. You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

Why is everybody pretending that it's unusual for someone to name their child after somebody they admire? It is not unusual.
Btw, in the south, Prince is not an unusual name either.
I swear, somebody brings up Hitler on the org every day though, Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I guess it's not really that different (or better or worse) than other random reasons for picking a name tho. [Edited 2/4/11 22:02pm] Yup. Prince Andre or Morris Lacey "Would you hold it agaisnt me, if I said I loved another?" ♥

And be ready for the sit-ins at the psychological appointments Well, he's deffiantly going to have long hair. My sister plans to never cut his it. I think that's going too far... "Would you hold it agaisnt me, if I said I loved another?" ♥

I have a cat named Prince. No, I didn't name him that, he had that name when I adopted him as a stray. The place that rescued him named him that, probably because of his sweet disposition. BUT, I have to admit that I did adopt him, in part, because he was named Prince. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

hehe, cuz he secretly wishes he can patent/copyright/whatever the name "Prince" but he can't, lol, so NOBODY won't use it. My lucky approxi-guess-timation
Now that I think about it, using my still-developing frontal lobes, it would be cool 2 name my kid after something related to Prince, like my username Ecstasy or Xstasy... but I know w/ that name she'll probably be a stripper by the time she's 13, so nevermind [Edited 2/5/11 20:18pm] Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. I believe that prince cares for all his fans, in fact he actually says how much he LOVES his fans sometimes when he gets his awards! And no i would not creep me out if someone named their baby after me, the only thing i would feel is LOVE, and u may find that creepy, but that DOES NOT make u right. And i do not have a crush on prince, i do find him attractive, but he is 52 for god sakes, and i may b young and have alot to learn, but i do know what real love is! Oh and u dont have time to comment about my so called idiotic hitler comment, but u have time to comment about how ur not commenting........makes absolutely no sense, and i find it VERY IDIOTIC Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
Purple music does the same 2 my brain And I'm high, so high

That works.
I think if people feel they must have a Prince-inspired name for their kid, the less obvious stuff like that, works better. Like Jamie (Jamie Starr), or Aura or something. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

I didn't know the letter "v" has a history, but that's interesting the know. What's funny is, every time I hear the name Violet, the Prince song, "Violet The Organgrinder" starts playing my head. Damn U, Prince! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

That is so cool the way you guys met at 3121, I wish you could have kept the name Prince for your kid because its not like you named him it just because you like who he's named after, it has significant meaning because you two wouldn't have met if it wasn't for Prince and 3121!

As babynoz stated, why are so many on this thread going on about how it's strange or somehow crazy to name your child after a person (celebrity or not) that you admire? Is it because we're specifically discussing the name Prince, which isn't a common name, sure, especially in certain regions, but it's not that bizarre. How is it any greater of a 'burden' on the child to be named Prince than to be given one of "OH SO UNIQUE!" , weirdly spelled (you know..to be "different") names that are popular these days, where the kid is going to have to for the rest of his/her life spell out their name because even though it might be pronounced "John" its spelled "Gghauwahn" or something equally as silly.
Along this same subject, it'd be interesting to know how many people of a certain age, perhaps on this very site, named their own child or know someone who named their son either BRANDON or DYLAN soley because of a particular tv show.

Imo, I think a kid named Aura would be in for just as much ribbing and ridicule as a kid named Prince.

I named my dog Prince. He was a skinny little mutt with crazy curly black hair when I saw him at the shelter. He was jumping up and down like a maniac in his kennel when we walked by and my 6-year old watched him and said "That dog can dance! We need that dancing dog!" Prince was a good name for him.
