Prince - Live in Tokyo 1990 Has anyone else heard this? Haven't played in while and forgot how great it is...Prince has so much energy and Rosie Gaines is in top form, I miss her as well as Bonnie Boyer, I always thought they both complimented Prince very well.
It's just a great solid concert performance, love this version of "Do me Baby", "Bambi", "Baby I'm a Star", etc.....was wondering what you guys thought. "May U live 2 C the Dawn"

"Has anyone else heard this?"
Noooooooooo, you must be the only privileged one who had access to such material that's been circulating for ages both on DVD and on lots of audio releases.
Seriously, do you know where are you asking this question?

It's ok.
The Nude tour recordings are not among my favourites.
The rehearsals are a different matter though, i enjoy them quite a lot. Thunderball's "Nudity" release is a must have if this tour is your thing.
The following is from thedatabank.

My favourite Nude tour show is still the La Coruna gig for video footage, and the Madrid soundboard boot for audio - just fantastic.

I think Prince's dancing was at a graceful, precise, and quickness peak on this tour. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Madrid is good, despite parts filled in with an audience recording (on Sabs release).
Actually, the Sabotage version includes part of the Paisley rehearsal mentioned in my above post.

I recently watched the Tokyo show for the first time since i was about 17 (im 30 now) an I gotta say how disapointed i was.
i remembered it being amazing!!!! However I now think it's crap.
All songs are too fast. Everything is a bit cabaret the dancers are terrible the live band is one of the worst he's had
sorry all. I think this tour is not one of the finest. [Edited 2/3/11 21:19pm] [Edited 2/3/11 21:20pm] *

It was indeed a fast paced show, but apart from Rosie (whom i have never really liked) and the awful Game Boyz, i thought the band were tight.

Rosie and Gameboyz were indeed dreadful...
just feel things like Doves cry and kiss were just too fast. Also didn't like the mix of songs over the same backing track (future/1999/housequake).. kind of killed the feel of the tracks.

I know we like a tight band, but that just doesn't do it for me, there has to be something else, as long as they excecute the songs well and have some kindof presence Im fine... but that's also way the 1978-1988 bands were/are still my favorite.
The Game Boyz should have just stayed in the 1st Ave club scenes up-top...
Rosie was definately about her own thing, her presence to me said, I'm not staying...

yeah that monotonous sampled housebeat [Edited 2/4/11 8:40am]

I personally love The Future beat used through three songs in a row, especially since the songs 1999 and Housequake were already featured on their own in pervious tours. The whole idea of a streamlined, high speed, super precise concert fit with his perfectly sculpted Phylicia Rashad coif, space-age simple outfits, rocketship guitar... NUDE tour... etc.
For real, I thought this concert was exciting, and the only live version of When Doves Cry that I actually think is cool to watch live.
Again, I think the dancing was hypnotically precise, like a live action anime character that was a funky rock star. This was so appropriate to be featured in Japan. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
