lol

I almost instinctively began singing to "Te Amo Corazon" at one point during the Gil Evans track. Is that what you were going for?

Didn't hear it until I listened to the Gary Burton track. Interesting. Another song it seems Prince has pilfered from.

Two completely different tunes.

The only song "The Question of U" borrows from is "Under the Cherry Moon" imo. But Prince is allowed to steal from himself. biggrin

I can kinda-sorta hear it in the Gary Burton version, if I strain real hard to fill in the pieces with my ears. But it isn't close enough for me to think that Prince has ever even heard this song, let alone lift from it, unless some other artist that's more in Prince's wheelhouse of influences and/or exposure did a version of it.

The Gary Burton version has the same melody as Question Of U played on the xylophone. I'm the last guy to want one of my musical heroes' body of work tarnished by similar findings like the origins of Kiss, Colonized Mind etc, but I hear the link between the OPs postings and the Prince song as clear as day.

I hear fragments of it that are similar and bits that are reminiscent, but like I said, my brain has to fill in the blanks on this song to make the melody identical.

I can understand that. I don't think it's identical either, but the similarities are close enough for me to make a judgement call and say Prince heard a rendition of this on more than one occasion prior to writing Question Of U.

I really don't get this at all. I even specifically listened to the xylophone and still don't see it.

If I play the notes from each song, they DON'T match at all.

With the exception of "Had U" and "Tambourine", you could probably take every song in the world and find another one that "sounds" similar. smile

Like a leaf borrows from the tree, or a kiss borrows from the meal.

Jesus, the melody is almost identical !!!! rolleyes

Some of you guys, especially those advising Q-Tips, would fit better to a "Justin Bieber" forum... I mean really.... neutral
