Prince and MJ: Super Bowl Halftime Show ok...before anyone gets "their" panties in a bunch... Prince and MJ are my faves...
Let's just say I feel Prince is a better "musician" and MJ is a better entertainer... everyone is entitled to their opinion and does it really matter anyway? they BOTH gave us great music that will last "our" lifetime...
as we prepare for another super bowl.... it always seems that Prince's halftime performance is highly regarded as the best ever by different media outlets...though we don't really hear that about MJ's...any reason?? I know that MJ was lip synching during that show...but i felt it was entertaining...any reason why his might be overlooked?? |

basically you've tried to put an mj thread here on the prince board. your final question, is about mj, not prince.
don't do that again...move to non prince. |

What's the point of doing a live show if you're not going to sing? Nobody wants to see an artist of that caliber lip synch. Prince always made a deliberate effort to let you know when he was being forced to lip synch on certain shows by either chewing gum or sucking lollipops during the performance. That's probably why it's not regarded as a great performance. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming! |

Actually, Prince has done plenty and I mean PLENTY of performances where he lip synchs. The concept that Prince does not lip synch is WRONG. |

Yes he has, but has that not been mainly TV related performances?
I'm going to stick my neck out and say he has never lip-synced while playing a proper gig, like on a tour. [Edited 1/27/11 17:32pm] |

No no, you implied that it was somehow not secretive, which is a matter of opinion. |

Is it overlooked? Can it just be that Prince's was more highly regarded and be okay with it? No?
For one thing, Prince had a better atmosphere/mood. It was dark out (MJ was in the middle of the day). Also, Prince rocked the hell out of it in a downpour. So, there's a bit of a purple rain show must go one element going on too. "New Power slide...." |

Also, probably because it was a typical MJ over the top with all the bells and whistles, gimics, cheezeball bring out all the kids form different races and hold hands and sing Heal the World, where Prince came out and displayed his musicianship and just entertained people without some hollow "Save the World" lip synched over gimmicked performance. And yes, I did enjoy Michael Jackson's music and perfomances over the years but sometimes I think they were over the top. |
