It should be platinum since they're practically giving copies away at Target stores! Nonetheless, Lotus Flower (the single disk) is one of my favorite Prince cd's.

Wait... how is this being counted? As a single disc or x3 like Emancipation?

Not bad for music that was barely promoted.

is it counted because of 0.99 cent at target - is it still at this price?

so they still have more than 200.000 copies???????

for sales purposes, as a single disc. for RIAA certification purposes, I believe it would be counted 3X. but I'm not sure each disc meets the length qualifications for being counted as a multi-disc set for those purposes.

Wonderful. And it only took over a year and a half to do it, and that's with them practically giving them away for under $1. rolleyes

The Targets in my area have different prices. Some are $1.99 and some are $4.99. Either way, it's a steal.

It would be interesting to know how much $$$$ Target paid Prince and how much they have re-couped/profited? 500,000 x $5 (average price estimate?) = $2,500,000.

I would like to know this, too....

And what about all the copies they sold in other countries as an import? Did they came from target or

Prince himself through an import store...?

I think 500 000 copies are quite good in these times...another gold album for Prince biggrin

By the way...he probably would have had another number one album in the US if Lotusflow3r would have been available on itunes or if the downloads on his site would have counted...

Keith Urban, who had the number one album this week, sold only 3000 copies more the same week, if i remember correctly....

Actually, it's probably already gold (Target made and/or shipped all their copies....maybe a million, maybe more), so it's already gold. It's just up to Prince to get the certification if he cares.

I have a question, kinda related. Take Radiohead, for example, who sold their album as pay-what-you-want. Considering some people may pay $10 and some may pay $.01, can they still technically reach gold status?

In other words, if someone sold their album for a penny, could it still count? What about if they just completely "sold" their album for $.00?

You can't "sell" it if it's free. lol However, I'm not sure how price is considered.

The length of the album is, though. If it meets the guidelines for a triple-album then, for certification purposes, 500k of sales becomes 1.5 million discs sold (like Emancipation). That would make it a platinum certification.

I think for a double-album it must be at/over 100 mins of music to count each disc separately, not sure how 3 album sets apply. LotusFlow3r and MPLSoUND are 101 minutes. Which would satisfy double-album requirements... but I'm not sure how Bria's disc fits in. It's only 44 minutes total. Although, I guess, even if it were listed as a double album it would still qualify as Platinum.

The album is already a year and a half old, it should've gone Gold a year ago. Congrats? Ya keep most albums our long enough they'll eventually go gold.

Wow, guys... really? No need for excuses. The album is a major flop, even at giveaway prices. It failed to connect with the general public and casual Prince fans alike. Prince, to his credit, quickly recognized the failure and dropped a new album where he attempted to address some of the criticisms of Lotusflower. 2010 still sucks, but that's another topic. The average Orger probably has 3 copies of the album, which makes gold status all the more misleading, if not flat out embarrassing.
