Wishes for next studio album

I know he has released 20Ten just over half a year ago (I really enjoyed that one) and we're quite spoiled with the quantity of Prince' output, but there's nothing wrong with talking about what we'd want his next album to sound like to wet our appetites and to learn about the expectations of his fan-base on here.

Personally, I did like 20Ten as a fun little summer album and there's some nice work on there, but it's just not challenging and deep enough, musically and lyrically. I also liked the mellow jazz release of In A Large Room With No Light, but I want something harder, more pumping and more mysterious from Prince.

I'd love him to rediscover a bit of the rockier Lotusflow3r sound, but with some freakier chord progressions and arrangements. Lotusflow3r was interesting sound-wise, but most songs on there were quite blunt and superficial musically (although I love that album).

I want him to experminet with a modern, powerful, commercial indie-rock sound, but mix it with challenging rock/psychedelic/fusion sounds and good lyrics. Something like "Boom, From The Lotus, Dreamer, Crimson And Clover, Colonized Mind" from Lotusflow3r, The Undertaker, parts of Chaos And Disorder, The Rainbow Children and a brand new, clean, but still mysterious indie-rock sound all mixed together.

I want to feel that he spent loads of time and thought on his music and that he respects it. Oh, and I think it would be cool if it were another major label release with some proper promotion, just for the sake of him talking about his new music and playing it live.

What do you want?

Rather then separating the organic/rock stuff and the electronic/funk stuff like he did with Lotus and MPLSound, I just want the two things to converge again.

Sign me up for all of this.... especially the parts in bold.

I think almost all of his music from this decade suffers from auto-pilot syndrome. Just like you said, even some of the best recent stuff like Boom and Colonized Mind from Lotus are still not very challenging musically. Doesn't mean I don't dig parts of his recent output. Just means it won't have a very long shelf life compared to other stuff in the cannon.

I want a MPLSOUND part 2.When i read the early preview thread for 20ten and the poster said 20ten is MPLSOUND part 2.So i knew i was gonna love 20ten but then came the day when it arrived and I was dissapointed on first listen. In my opinion its nothing like MPLSOUND aside from LAYDOWN.So I guess I want more songs like Laydown,dance4me,and old skool company on the next album.

I don't care anymore, no wishes, no expectations except just more of the same old. Prince is finished as an artistic/creative force.

I'd be content with a really good album for the first time since 2001.

Regardless of genres, I'd like it to be -for a change- unpredictable music.

I'd like him to forget about BLATANTLY IMITATING what's on the airwaves (which is the worst quality in music history) and following the sounds in his head.

Stupid JW propaganda lyrics should better be forgotten and that'd be the icing of such a cake.

In two words: NOT HAPPENING...

I'd like to have an album full of songs like - Crystal Ball; Joy In Repetition; The Question Of U; When I Lay My Hands On U; The War; Beautiful Strange; Boom; Colonized Mind and Dreamer. Something funky, trippy and rockin'.

Totally not interested in him sounding like BEP/GaGa, whatever other shit is clogging up US radio (that he bemoans the state of, but then imitates what they play).

Would much rather hear something with a little more thought in it - lyrically and musically. Trying to compete with pop acts 30 years his juniour is just embarassing, and he's got more talent than most of them put together, so put it to good use FFS.

my thoughts exactly; but now, 11 minutes later, I think that he meant that Prince '00s electronic sound (3121, MPLS, 20Ten) sucks...

Seeing them at the Conga Room last year reminded of the great synergy they have on stage together. Sometimes less is more, more or less..

really weird funky but imaginative, alien sounding, crazy, ill, carefully mixed and produced tracks. NONCOMMERCIAL. Like mutated, mad mood, funk pop.

No jazz musicianship.
