Okay, ya'll! But the real question is, if you had dressed like that and all the other fashions of the 80s, would you dress like that now?!! lol

This is kind of like asking if Cher should tour in her 1980s clothes again. Just remember that Prince is 52 now and whatever work he’s had done to make his face look 35 probably hasn’t also been done to the rest of his body. I really, really don’t want to watch a 52-year-old many running around in a plastic vest, panties and fishnets.

What's great about Prince is you get the unexpected?

The only thing Prince hasn't change is his trade mark.

The color purple.

Prince will never bring back the 80's gear.

That's to cheezy for him.

Let Prince be Prince, and we all just go alone for the ride.

But hey! Without or with his clothes on he still looks incredibly hot and I truly LOVE the way he dresses now! drooling

are we for real here? He's a ROCK STAR not your 56 yr old uncle on the porch lol

Did he not wear almost see thru lace shirts in Europe

Isn't he rocking silk ruffled shirts?

Michael Jackson & Madonna 2 of the superstars from the 1980's continued to have a similar look and use of the style they wore in the 1980's no one said they were trying to hold on to youth or anything. Sometimes too much changing is not good.

I don' t see what is so 26yr oldish about what he wore during 1999 Purple Rain Parade or SOTT Lovesexy

he wore a lot of ruffled shirts and suits of various sorts

I don't think Princes style had anything to do with looking young it was just a reflection of the music

So I say yes, but to making his look more interesting.

let us know!

Let me ask you: If you could fit in your clothes from the 80s, would you still wear them?

Show up to work with a feathered haircut, parted down the middle, with a Pink and Flourescent orange polka-dot shirt, with a skinny tie, covered by your Members Only Jacket. This ensemble would be rounded out with some parachute pants, purple leg warmers and some first generation Reeboks. The first thing people would think: Who is this joke?

Now imagine Prince. Image is everything. Not only would the guy not wear last year's fashions, he wouldn't wear last year's fashion designed specifically for him by the world's top designers. Donning the purple trenchcoat with the spikes on the sleeves would be like the scene in Austin Powers when he walks through the casino with his 60s swinger clothes on. It may have been cool then, but now, it's pathetic.

Besides, what serious performer wears the same thing they did 30 years ago? (Beyond Kiss, but that's a different story)

That's the practical answer, now the philosophical answer:

Prince doesn't look back. He does something, then leaves it on its own.

I think about this when people go to Graceland and see how tacky everything is. They act like Elvis would still be wearing the jumpsuit and have the shag carpeting in his home. He would have a bigger and modern home, and dress in 2011 fashion. Those impersonators, ..scuse me "tribute artists," still wear the jumpsuits, just because it was the last thing Elvis wore. It may have been cool then, but now it's pathetic.

Ok I NEVER dressed like that in the 80's lol And ummm leg warmers are in

And please Prince looks back all the time, he's human we all do. When he had the Lotusflower site on the tv screen thing was he not reflecting back to 1986 ?

I respect your opinion but I wouldn't change my mind wink And I didn't mention his age to show how 'old' he is... Please!

By the way... how would it look like if Prince was the only one wearing 80's fashion clothes in 2011?

Awkward...

And as I've said before, I love his current look and I don't think he should change anything about it smile

Frankly, he does wear a lot of stuff he first wore in the 80s. His still wears a Regency collar on a lot of his jackets (and some of his shirts). And ruffles, of course. And his flared pants are very similar to the ones he wore in the Kiss video. shrug

He's just adapted these ideas to suit his current physique and taste.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Looking back is one thing, but living in the past is another. Wearing the half-shirt and bell-bottoms from the Kiss video would still be ridiculous.

Um, this is an odd thread. Prince often DOES wear things that he could have in the 80's or 90's.

This outfit could have easily been worn in that Under the Cherry Moon 1986 timeframe:

lol please leg warmers on women were always sexy. Although every woman was not.

I remember a classmate named Felicia who in junior high school was tall and long and she would wear them the whole length of her legs/thighs it was so sexy

falloff Sensitive much? It's my opinion and I don't care if you agree or not. The key word I used was "some". I don't want to see a 50 year old man or woman with their ass hanging out! lol Maybe you think that looks good-I don't. Yes both Prince and Madonna are fit but still I don't wanna see it.

About the other old looks, I like it when an artist changes his/her look over time. No need to keep going back to former styles. It's fine to mix in 1 theme or something from the past but I think it's better to come up with something new.

why would I be sensitive. Um are we all challenging each others opinions on this? maybe the sensitivity is on your end. wink U still did not answer my question. What outfits our you refering to that are too old for Prince? as a few of us with pics are proving already is that a lot of what Prince is wearing now is similar to what he wore 1985-1986

No they aren't the same trench coat, one is an off the rack gray coat, the other is a form-fitting custom made one. I was saying Prince isn't going to come on stage wearing his old coat, his drawz, heels and nothing else.

I'm saying if he was to wear his old costumes, it would look like Halloween on stage.

Your nitpicking and missing the point. This whole conversation is ridiculous, the guy isn't going to wear his old clothes like some Beatles tribute band, no matter how much people want him to, and can't get out of the past.

2 things:

1. His clothes from the 80's weren't really "costumes". No more than his clothes today are.

2. Be honest, Prince always looks a little bit like it's halloween?
