17 Days has always been a very favorite of mine.

Anecdote That No One Cares About*: Back in August 1997 during the JOTY tour, I was standing in line at DC's 9:30 Club waiting to hand over my stub to the box office for free after show tix and the 2 attractive young women behind me began talking about songs they wished he would play that night and 17 Days was the first one they mentioned. He didn't play it that night (Truthfully, I can't remember much of what he played, I was in utter shock of being about 3 feet away from the man for the better part of 2 hours).

Saw him play it live at rehearsal in Sydney. Just about fainted faint

It instantly became one of my favorites back in the day. I remember buying the When Doves Cry 12 inch as I always liked to do, playing the flip side and saying "Damn, why haven't I heard this before? Why hasn't this song been released?"

17 Days and She's Always In My Hair go hand-in-hand as my favorite unreleased songs of all time, it was a wise decision to include them on The Hits/The B Sides. I just wish there was an extended version of 17 Days on Ultimate Prince the way there is for She's Always In My Hair.

I would rank Another Lonely Christmas #3 and Irresistible Bitch #4 on my short list of priceless B-sides. Those four songs are Prince at his funk-rockiest best!

"Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."

Have you heard the Living Colour version of 17 Days? Has anyone else covered it?

Love that song, other favourite b-sides:
Another Lonely Christmas
Erotic City
Love Or Money
And, as others have mentioned, She's Always In My Hair

I'm another one who isn't so keen on When Doves Cry. Sorry.

it's my favourite Prince song. The emotions behind it, the loneliness - great lyrics, the melody, the rhythm, bass - everything is perfect

When Doves Cry is outstanding for me because of the imagery that he converys in the song as well as the orignality and uniqueness of it. Kiss is brilliant too. I guess we just have different tastes

Surely U must agree that Sign Of The Times is awful because of its sparse bleak apocalyptic arrangement.

17 Days, Erotic City, Another Lonely.., and God were obviously incredible b-sides. But to come in support of Purple Rain was really a awesome surprise...I originally heard them on the Electifying Mojo radio show broadcast from WJLB in Detroit at around midnight back in 1984. Once I heard them, I was on a mission to find them on vinyl(no internet back in the olden days:D)))..)

WOW. I was there. That was back when I used 2 be on the guest list, thanks 2 Rhonda.

Did U also go the show with the aftershow being at The Capitol Ballroom? That was amazing... Aftershow started with Prince on the drum kit.

Peace.

LOve LoVe this song. I have only seen it played live once DURING THE PURPLE RAIN tour. Wish he would play it more often. sad

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Recently I bought the Hits/B Sides cd and I've listened to "17 days" the most.If it had been released as a A-Sides,I believe it could've been a hit.
