People who only listen to Prince's music

There are Prince fans who only listen to Prince,

do you find that crazy?

There is so much beautiful music made

by other people.

I meet Prince fans who only listen and like Prince, but they can't pay

attention to any other artist .

What is strange is that Prince is a unique mix of different

artist blended into one great musician.

I like to listen to Santana and think now this is where

Prince come from regarding his guitar licks.

I think those who listen only Prince's music miss that kind of fun smile

I have friends who don't regularly listen to music and have no real favorite artists. THAT, to me, is crazy. And I would certainly go crazy myself if I didn't listen to music all the dang time. Could I listen to Prince music exclusively? Yeah, I think I could if I had no other choices. And if you're going to choose one artist to limit yourself to Prince isn't a terrible choice. But that IS limiting yourself an awful lot. There is so much incredible music out there (past, present and future) that I just can't imagine cutting myself off from all of it.

I honestly don't have any favourite artist besides prince that i am a diehard fan of. I am a casual fan of a number of artists though. So there are several artists where i ca say" yeah i like so and so song" and put it on my itunes to listen to.

Still if you are going to limit yourself to one artist, then Prince is a great choice. This is not only because he has so many good songs and good albums but also because he is so versatile. With Prince you can get funk, rock, pop, rnb and even a few songs in genres like disco, blues, jazz, regaee and so on.

not having a favourite artist isn't crazy, that's actually normal. that's what normal people are like. they don't sell their grannies jewellery to buy prince concert tickets

whilst many prince fans are crazy, even the craziest ones i've known or met have listened to music other than prince

what i've found is with the crazy fans, if prince mentions another artist, they will go out of their way to seek out that artists music and listen to it so they can be like prince, listening to what he listens to. so if prince says he likes some shit like some fucking peruvian nose flute band made up of deaf children, their audience would suddenly increase from 5 people to 17, with all 12 prince fans turning up at concerts and posting about it on the org

i've only known one person to say they only listened to prince music only (and his related music that he played on, but not extended further to include music of those artists that prince didn't breathe on), but that person tended to talk a lot of shite at times, but i still think that in normal circumstances they really didn't listen to non prince music, in that they didn't buy or listen to other cds or actively listen to other music, but of course no-one can escape other music entirely, but by choice i think they didn't listen to other music

btw, kevin smith was asked what artist would he listen to if he could only listen to one person for the rest of his life, and he said prince. i would have to say the same, fortunately there is plenty prince music to keep me going for a long long time, especially if you include bootlegs

I have a few friends who listen to several artists who Prince influenced, yet they can't seem to get into his music. I always found that kinda odd.

I would say Aphex Twin.

And I totally disagree with you. Most people who regularly listen to music and have done so for any length of time do have a favorite artist, or favorite artistS, or a favorite type of music, at least. You took my point a bit out of context, though. My point was that I have friends who DON'T regularly listen to music, therefore they can't/don't have any favorites. It also had nothing to do with Prince, or Grannies jewelry. lol

I listen to Prince a lot, but i also listen to other music a lot too, i don't really bother with tv or movies very often so i have a lot of time to indulge in music.

I think prince probably makes up about 50% of the music i listen to, which is quite a high amount, but listening to Prince and Prince only for long periods (are we talking days/weeks?) seems a bit unrealistic to me, it's possible of course, but even the deepest of Prince fan would surely get burned out by listening to the same artist every single day.

Nothing odd about it, it is the music you are into and obviously enjoy.

There was a time many moons ago that I listened to Prince 95% of the time....so much so that I really can't stomach listening to many of hits now...they're just so boring and over familiar to my ears. I think that why I place so much expectation on his new music - I hoping to find something that fills that void. I'd still say Prince is my fav artist...but I don't listen to him very often anymore.

That is a very good point. The albums do seem over familiar to me too, and expectations are high, and when a new one is released, those expectations are not being fulfilled. This is why my interest now lies with live recordings and outtakes, i can't remember the last time i listened to a Prince album all the way through.

No, but I used to be like that w/ MJ though...(I don't listen to his music anymore unless it's on the radio.) I like other artists besides Prince though, but I'm a casual fan of most of the artists I listen to. My taste in music has really changed. I used to love Pop & R&B music, but not so much anymore. Music is crap these days.

I only listen to Prince music boxed

There's just nothing else that catches my attention, b/c I tune it out. After years of listening 2 mainstream garbage by 1 maybe 2 hit "artists", it was overwhelmingly refreshing to hook onto Prince the first time I heard him.Real music & instruments with blood, sweat, tears, ease, and mastery fully deposited into it. Plus it gives me a challenge to think what he is talking about, other than today's music where everything's thrown out like worthless information. This same opinion doesn't apply for the early musicians and artists like Santana, Hendrix, Brown, James. Prince barely speaks as it is, so when he does, let alone sing, my ears are wide open.

But I have taken liking to Lady Gaga biggrin and she's even on my Prince-pod to say the least, lol. An honor for her, in which she gives me somewhat of a break from my constant purple high when need-be. She plays instruments, sings, & writes her own stuff. Plus she's fucking clever in her wordplay, but not as good as Prince razz

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

"Music is crap these days".

Yeah I agree. That's why I mainly listen to jazz. People like Miles, Meshell, Beatles, Stones, and P have written so many forms of music that you can get so much out of it. I've always dug diversity in music and those artists cover all avenues it seems.

So I can understand why certain people might listen to nothing but P because he can shift gears

musically. Sometimes when I listen to his stuff (78-88) I'll hear something I never heard before.

If I'm honest Prince has to be the trunk of my Musical Tree...as the first artist I ever got into then I suppose, subconsciously, everything else I listen to must someway be influenced...or influenced by an influence of an influence from my Prince history.

Maybe

I have a prince playlist of ONLY 18 songs. My itunes holds 636 songs so even if I am a prince fan I definitely don't listen to him even for half a day. But it's weird because I can talk about him for half a day just being on this site... lol

Yes.

I get so deep into music that I can't imagine limiting myself like that even if Prince happens to be my favorite.

Sometimes I have spells where I listen to a lot of Prince but I have other artists that I cherish too.

There are only a handfull of other people that I'm into, but I only have phases of listening to them occaisionaly, its 90% Prince.

I think it's partly down to he does so many styles that I don't get bored with it, as opposed to everyone else doing the same style all the time (a rock band will only play rock music).

It's also down to his magic, nothing compares to it.

Other people can't understand it but they're just wishy washy people, music comsumers not lovers, they like a bit of this and a bit of that but they love nothing.

In that respect, Prince's music is like a marriage, I have listened to many people over the years but now I've found one I truly love that fulfils all my musical needs.

I listen to other artists but there isn't another artist out there that I can put 4 or 5 cds of theirs on, one right after another, and not feel a bit crazy. If I had to listen to just one he would easily be that one. He tries to make his albums flow together instead of being a bunch of mismatched hits and usually he succeeds. As a human being I think he is a nut bag, but as a conteporary artist I believe that he is in a league of his own or a league of very few.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.
