Severely Underrated song , the achingly beautiful "Condition of the Heart"

Song is stunning in my books, the vocals outstanding and so heartfelt and unique. Pain stabs through the song. Better than Adore in my book, though 2 terrific songs from differing perspectives

It may not be mentioned in a thread every week or so like some songs, but i don't think that Condition Of The Heart is underrated.

Prince fans seem to hold the song (and album) in high regard.

And i agree, it is a beautiful song, i love the album too.

Underrated typically means more people than is justified tend to have a poor view of something. Condition of the Heart remains a very popular song here on the Org as it always has been (which is notable because I am sure its appreciation amongst fans is what lent to its inclusion in the One Nite Alone... Live! set).

I don't agree with your typical defination of underrated, don't imagine most people have a "poor" view of whatever for it to be underrated, I think something that is often overlooked or taken for granted by most when greater appreciation is deserved should be the defination.

that being said, I think I need to get my morning running by getting out of bed, cranking up the stereo and playing this gem at least twice. Did not realize there was that much appreciation for Condition on the org, but that being the case, terrific , well deserved. Tamborine and the title track to AtWiaD are also beckoning me this AM.

Agreed great song. At the 12/29 show at MSG he went into the opening of this to start the piano medley but he never sang a lyric from it. I was kinda disappointed and on the way home I was singing it to myself "there was a girl from Paris ...".

I'm 44 years old and sometimes I marvel at how princes music has truly been the soundtrack of my life.

It's always been my favorite since I first heard it. That album is my favorite

That opening just pulls you in, very mysterious swirl of colors For some reason the opening reminds me of God the Dance Electric

Don't think it's underrated like so many other here have said, it gets a regular thread discussion.

It seems to always be apart of a piano medley and the fans always sing along so I doubt underrated

It's alright. His vocals really annoy me on this song though. And on the Charade version of "Love Or Money".

I love it, especially the intro. Gorgeous melody.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

This was the song where - when my friend had asked me to come over and listen to the record on headphones as I read all the lyrics in the new Prince album - my mind opened to the idea that Prince was much more than he had previously seemed as a creative artist.

I love this song. I also love so many other slow and sexy songs by him, ballads, and jazzy songs.

And I love that Prince can sing the same song beautifully in different genres and so breathtaking.

I like "The Ladder". Such a beautiful song with wonderful lyrics. I was listening to the Ladder a lot just a few days ago.

lovely song, but the arrangement and performance on the album version are a little over the top for me. too self-consciously "arty".

What do you think "under rated" means? It is rated under its true worth. Poorly estimated. Poorly judged. A poor view. Under. Rated. As opposed to overrated, which would be to lavish praise on something undeservingly. Come on now.

that's Prince dude, exporing new sounds and instruments, the opening piece shows a wider range to his piano playing and that part is no different that what he did on songs like God the Dance Electric

the opening bit is great. it's the vocals that I don't like. same with God, to a lesser extent.

oh, I actually love it, that was 'spooky' Prince lol

what's so off about the vocals for Condition of the Heart or God, for the most part he's just singing reg/falsetto back in forth. God has the screeches
