What has Prince's music done for you?

The greatest aspect of music is its quality of inspiration. Has Prince's music ever helped you, whether it simply brings back good memories or motivated you in a positive way?

I have been listening to his stuff for a little over a year but he is easily my favourite artist. His sheer versatility is amazing.

Having been a fan of Prince's music had an enormous impact on my life.

His music was the first music that ever really touched me when I was a teenager touched.

I spent a fortune on my collection and travelling to see him bawl.

I met my ex-bf of 17 years bheart penguin.

I met the majority of my close and not so close friends and still meet new ones even though I am not really a fan anymore and we hardly ever talk about Prince or his music.

So without Prince's music my whole life would have been totally different.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

I never thought I would become a die hard fan of anyone ever again after being a MJ fan for the longest time (up until 4 yrs ago.) After seeing Prince for the first time in concert on 12/29 I can't get enough of him or his music. Prince's music makes me happy and his voice is soothing. I have to have my dose of Prince every day or else I'll go crazy! biggrin

His music has always been inspiring to me, in writing, dancing, singing, painting

I've always like this cute falsetto voice, between man and woman

He's made me become a bigger fan of guitar, because of his playing

His music and lyrics made me appreciate more the english as language

He has also put me into a kind of obcession, not him, myself from I was put into a circle from which I couldn't escape.. because too much focused on his "character", My view was veiled by an idea, an image, a "Perfect picture" I had in mind, because of what he sings, the way he does: I mean he's a very good "story teller" when he sings..

Nowadays, because of his reaction towards me once, I only listen to Prince's music, go to his concert when I can afford.

I don't do the "impossible to go to a concert, or try to meet him

I don't expect some kind of "waving" from him to me except the waves that the sounds, notes, his music does in my Air.

I definetely enjoy one of his way of communication: MUSIC, specially his LIVE MUSIC

hahahah!

Set me back way more than that. BUT in return I have been a very lucky gal.

Prince's music has showed me how to love, respect, hate and live through the hurt of alot of life's experiences.

I also have had the pleasure of meeting beautiful people, and falling in love .....

Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize
u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,
with u it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth
eye don't feel so sad
Stay right here

Listening to Prince's music again after many years of not doing so, as well as other artists, put me back in touch with a part of myself I haven't been in touch with for quite a while... That is a big plus. Not to mention that the music is terrific, too! wink

I agree with a lot of you. Prince's music inspired me in so many ways. I always related to his lyrics, and they helped me get through some difficult times. Whether it's being a good lover, being strong and confident with myself, or simply living life, Prince and his music have taught me a lot. He'll always have a special place in my heart for all the memories(:

I remember crying for the first time over his song , "The Holy River". I listened to that like a million times ,and i never cried. All those tears while washing dishes lol. Anyway, that man basically provided the soundtrack of my life, as previously forestated. Everything he has done, everything he is( well won't go that far now). His dancing, music, writing, acting , everything!!!! He has inspired me ever since i was 13. To me, it just keeps getting better and better. This wine is aging perfectly!!

I crap on Prince often, but I have to give him credit for quite a bit of good in my formative years.

I've always been a searcher where music is concerned, but I think his dabbling in a little of everything really did further inspire me to explore genres and sounds pretty far afield from that of, say, my family and friends. He also had some social influence in that he very much broadened what was "cool" for black men to be and do through the '80s. I'd never rock high heels, eyeliner and butt-out lace pants lol, but I really thank Prince for being a polar opposite presence to the increasingly dominant and caricaturish hip hop set, whose aesthetic also never fit me. Somewhere within that spectrum (defined along with other role models, of course), I could find my own individual look, personality, interests, quirks, artistic tastes, etc., normalized.

Very well stated, Lammastide. I think you phrased very succinctly-- what a lot of people feel about Prince, his music, and its effect on them...who feel different from "the crowd" and found Prince and his music as an outlet to express their own individualities... cool

He has changed/matured my entire music taste & has introduced me to a different world of genres & artists that I would have never listened to, or discovered, if it wasn't for him.

His music has always been there to help me through every problem, and every single mood batting eyes

I never really found an artist that I've clicked with like I have with Prince, and with hardly any effort! To others, his music is so diverse .. but to me, it really makes me feel complete. I don't think there's any other artist out there who will hit me as hard as Prince has. I mean, if there was one artist that I could only listen to for the rest of my life .. it'd be P, no doubt about it.

Well, what can I say? I'm testing positive for the funk!

It's cliche and it's been said before but his music has been the soundtrack of my life and in my case, I mean it literally as I've been a fan since I was 5 and I'm 31 now. As a kid, the music was just fun to sing along and dance to but as I grew older, I started to understand more of what he was saying and it just rang true for me, in terms of his view of sex and spirituality and for me to make up my mind as to what to do with the 2. The diversity in his music made me interested in other genre's of music, especially music that I didn't have an ounce of interest in as a kid. I listen to jazz, instrumental music and country with an appreciation of it thanks to hearing Prince dabble in it in some form or fashion and realizing, those genres weren't so bad afterall lol

Prince and his music are a part of my daily life in that I have met friends and acquaintences from all over the world because we are Prince fans. With many of my friends, especially in NYC and L.A., they are as big a Prince fan, if not moreso, than I am and with that kind of love and enthusiam we have with Prince and his music, we love it even more and it has helped us to relate to each other outside of just Prince too and some of them have become my sisters and brothers. My life has been so enriched in being a Prince fan and I'm thankful to God for the gift that He gave Prince because as a result, so many lives have benefitted greatly from Prince and his music. I will be a Prince fan till the day I die.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I agree about him being different and brave enough to be himself also. I've always felt different and couldn't relate to people esp. growing up. I have my own quirks and my out of the box way of thinking. I enjoy being different, but for the longest time I felt so lost and didn't know who I was. (Back when I was a die-hard MJ fan I took it for granted and I couldn't relate to any of my MJ fan friends at all and I didn't understand why back then. Now I know I wasn't meant to be a life long MJ fan. That chapter of my life is over and I feel like a new one is beginning for me because of Prince.) W/ Prince, it seems like my life is starting to make sense now....like an awakening. I've been fans of many celebs in the past and they've never had such an effect on me like Prince has. Thank god for Prince because it seems like the music industry is going to hell and Prince is an outlet for me. As each day passes I've become to appreciate Prince more and more. I'm a fan for life.
