No. That project was not my cup of tea. And it still isn't.

The single Lotus disc does, MPLSound still sounds plastic.

I was indifferent to the Lotus disc when it was released, but after hearing some of the material performed live, then returning to the album, i have come to regard it as probably one of his best efforts of the decade.

I've dug Lotus single disc from the get go. Still do. May be fave of the last 5 albums. Mplsound I like about half of it. As others have stated before, I think 20Ten is what Mplsound was going for but didn't quite achieve. And yes I like 20Ten. Get over it. lol

+1

There's nothing on the album that I think of as cutting edge/highly original material. But most of the tracks are growers. Ironically, Dreamer is one the track that most of Prince's biggest critics all seemed to fawn over, and it is the song I like the least. Waaaay to derivative of Voodoo Chile for me.

Looking back, i would have preferred a continuation of the Lotus sound than what we ended up with in the shape of 20Ten.

It's faded a little bit for me. The flaws in the second half where the album kind of falls apart and gets sleepy before picking back up with the last few songs has become more evident. On the other hand, it's still exciting for me to listen to because overall, it's the single most satisfying disc he's done in the last 15 years.

I really enjoy the whole Lotusflow3r and I thought I would never get used to Bria's cd being that I only would listen to 2 of her songs (Elixer and Everytime-only b/c of the video LOL) but anyway, I really enjoy her whole cd except for like 2 songs now. cool

Lotusflow3r (single disc) is a minor classic IMO and sounds just as good now. MPLSound sounds even worse now than it did then...LOL

Yes, Lotusflower has. I can listen to all the way through and enjoy it. My favs: Morning after, Love like Jazz, 77 BP, FBFG, Dreamer, Back to lotus. Don’t like 4ever though. MplSound is okish, Valentina is the best on there.

I don't listen to Bria album at all the cover alone puts me off, not coz of her its just I don’t like when Prince puts one of his proteges thrown in the mix of one of his albums just coz hes shagging her, and then not letting people have the choice whether they wanted to buy it or not. I choose to buy his music not the other way around, so lost interest in Elixir.

20ten is definitely Mplsound pt.2.

But i guess u r referring to Lotusflow3r the album (not the 3 CD-set)

I don't get the hate for Lotus Flower and I'm a pretty big stickler when it comes to his recent output. While MPLSound leaves a lot to be desired*, the Lotus disc is awesome. Every track is a killer except Dreamer (which is an obvious Jimi rip off). If you swap Here and Dreamer, I think Lotus is a perfect disc.

* For some reason, Prince really just can't recapture both writing a minneapolis sound synth hook AND keeping the composition loose and informal. Seems when Prince tries to recreate his old sound now, it is all very antiseptic and very clean and sharp. There's no warmth, there's no loose quality to it, there's no playful vibe. It's like he is just showing up for vocals and Dr Luke is doing his beats or something.

I agree with most of this, but Dreamer R-O-C-K-S!

I still like MPLSoUND the most out of these discs. I never really got into LF. There's nothing there of note.

All three discs put something on the table; and I can take something from each of their plates. Sometimes I'm left hungry, wanting more, other times I'm full and content. I dig tracks on Elixer, but a few of them I haven't really been able to get into; same goes for Lotusflow3r and MPLSound.

All in all I enjoy the set.

Elixer grew on me big time. Every track is killer bar one, Everytime. Something You Already Know is RnB HEAVEN.
