I loathe it. It starts out all right (but not great), but then it just...meanders.

Hey I have always contended that this is some of his best work period! I have friends that call me and ask which new Prince cd's are worth purchasing and I always tell them this one.

With every new Prince album, the previous ones sound like classics in comparison.

I have to disagree. When Lotusflow3r was released no one was hailing Planet Earth as a classic!

I loved the Lotusflow3r album right away and I still think it's a great album, certainly my favourite post Emancipation album. MPLSoUND I really tried to get into but other than a few tracks I just don't dig it. I'm one of those that believe that 20Ten was MPLSoUND done right. I always listen to all three discs (Elixer then MPLSoUND and I save Lotusflow3r for last) so I have heard Elixer as much as the other two and I think I prefer it to MPLSoUND. MPLSoUND has better high points ("Dance 4 Me" "No More Candy 4 U") but Elixer is a fairly consistent listen all the way through. "Everytime" is a bit too sleepy but otherwise it's a good album.

LotusFlow3r does get better with time. Even songs I didn't like much (Forever, Wall Of Berlin) sound better.

Dance 4 Me is the standout track on the other disc, but I don't like many of the others.

Love LF (except for 4Ever which I find completely unlistenable!!!)

I was never an MPLSound hater, but it's definitely the weaker of the two. I HATE the first track and Chocolate Box, like Dance $ Me and No More Candy a lot and, don't shoot me, quite like Better With Time and the new version of that track from ONA.

I was thinking thsi week, though, don't you think Beautiful Strange would fit well on LF? It doesn't belong well on Rave (Into is better than Unto but still not amazing) - i 'd swap it with 4Ever (or bury the latter on Planet Earth which I never listen to anyway!)

I’ve liked it since it was released. I could be grumpy and say the the best tracks of both albums could have made up one great album. But the whole package was less expensive than most single albums—so what’s to gripe about?

Absolutely

as soon as I realized that Lotus is just a charming, lush, unpretentious album with some really tasty funk/rock/pristine guitar, I enjoyed it a lot

It's like the 00s version of Chaos and Disorder, but much more focused (no raps, thank God), stronger and as I've said, unpretentious...

That's an interesting comparison but I would rank Chaos and Disorder as the better album (possibly for sentimental reasons, it was my first Prince album).

The only reason it may sound better to you, is that you are succumbing to Prince's benign mediocrity fuelled by his arrogance and religious blindness. you want it to work, like all of us, because you love him for his past and the person that he no longer is.

I'm just giving Crystal Ball another listen, after responding to another thread on here. But if you can honestly not be disappinted when comparing the likes of Dream Factory, MovieStar, Crucial (for instance) with most of anything post-1989, well then you're a better man (woman) than me.

He makes the odd good song, but most of the time they're surrounded by filler drivel on his albums. On occasion he'll lay-down a classic tune and ruin it with his childish 'spiritual' lyrics. Or the lyrics are more jumping, and the tune is a weak copy of all the other jazz-swing fusion BS sound that he's refused to drop since it failed miserably on the Symbol album. His albums are shoddy and rushed, and smack of a man with too much money, that nobody has the balls to be honest with.

The few good times he's almost reached past glorious heights; for instance the album that could have been - The Dawn Experience, which turned into the two inconsistent albums; Come and The Gold Experience, he manages to pull failure from the shadows of success.

Little Man's music fire of originality, and desire to please anyone other than himself, has well and truly burnt out.

Not at all! Being a fan since the 80`s, I realized since the 90`s that P has lost some of his creativity, I don`t succumb to P anymore...I just recognize his musical efforts.

His arrogance + religious beliefs?...I don`t care about that, that`s his life not mine.

I think the set is excellent...I liked it wen it came out and I like it even better now. It is certainly better than 20Ten. Prince has several great albums that - for what reason - did not get a proper chance (Rainbow Children, Emancipation, Newpowersoul) and this is the last one to be in that category.

I'd say most of his creativity. And the arrogance and beliefs are the main contributing factors to his lack of musical creativity. So as the listener and a fan (since the 80's), how can you not care?

Personally, I find it difficult to respect any 'artist' who forces their beliefs on me in their art. He's always mentioned god, but it never bothered me until he started asking me, as the listener, to sign up to his newfound childish beliefs. He even does this in his live gigs now - he's more evangalist than artist.

V10LETBLUES

If the single disk lotus was released, I would consider it a classic. But with mnplsound included, there is a lot to explain away. It would be hard for me to reccomned to people. I would not want them to have to even consider putting the other two disks into their stereo or even having them around their home.

I still consider mnplsound type music absolute worst in Prince. Corny, beneath him and embarrassing.

Lotus hasn't got better with time for me, I love it as much as I did when I first heard it. One of his best for sure. I can spin MPLSound from time to time and not skip anything but usually Box Of Chocolates will get missed.

loved it the day of release, love it just as much now. great album. well, the title disc, that is.

mplsound, i don't like that much. it's more like a collection of bsides or something but it just

doesn't feel like an album to me. some nice moments, a lot of crinchers.

but Lotusflower, the album, is probably my favorit prince album since 2003. great songs and

just a great feel through the entire disc.
