Prince: 'I have Something to Say' ...

I was always under the impression that Prince wanted to just 'make it' in the music business. I don't think it was because he had something to say and wanted the world to learn something new or different.

Later in P's career, during the Love4oneanother Era and there after, that point of view changed or the direction of the music changed. The first 10yrs of P's career was about Love, Sex and GOD just like the same premise is there 'now' but, when we watch an interview or read a transcript, he always has something to say e.g. chem-trails, music history of some sort understanding about owning your master recordings.

From your point of view, would you say P was all about making it or was there a message from the beginning?

(As an artist and thinking back on when I was performing, it was about the 'love' of making music and performing it, I didn't have anything specific to say, I just loved music and making music).

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Prince just wanted money and fame. All of the rest of it was a gimmick, his character, a persona that was created to drive record and concert sales.

And we all bought into it.

I've had a feeling for quite some time now that Prince's sex persona was a gimmick, but I think he wanted to be famous in order to make more people listen to his music and he wanted the money so he could make more music. You can call that naive if you want to, but that's how I feel. Prince changes his mind very very often, and I guess the only thing that hasn't changed is his love for (his) music. So I'd say that's what Prince was and is all about.

Please note that I do not mean that Prince hasn't been into sex a lot during his life, I just feel the flashy time was to get the attention of the big crowd. Once he had gotten that, he dropped his flashy style and I believe that indicates that it didn't really come natural.

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

I think it's just a natural progression that most people go through. When you're younger, you just want to party, 'live-for-the-moment' and 'follow-your-heart' etc. - which is what he did I think. Who doesn't want to be rich and famous when you're 16? Thankfully for Prince, he was talented enough for his dreams to flourish. But as you get older, you start to develop a more worldly consciousness, and issues/politics/debate/the plight of mankind etc. become more important to you.

Was there a message from the beginning? Maybe. At least maybe he thought there was one. Although I suspect if you pressed him on it, even he wouldn't be able to clearly tell you what it was.

I think he had something to say...he definately said alot about himself and music when he came out. He taught people not to have such stereotypes...and that's something that needs to be said. He broke boundaries, so obviously he had something to say. I was just saying this to a friend and my sis how Prince is trying to find this balance between sexuality and spirituality...yeah, I'd say he had something to say for sure! And I have been listening and learned alot from Prince. I never thought he was about the money and fame, his actions are proof of that. Prince was just him and he wanted to share that with the world through the music.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

i agree, prince has taught me so much.....he taught me whats real and fake, whats right and wrong, he taught me to love god, and love people for not what skin color they have or whats on the outside, but to love them for who they r on the inside. prince definetly had something to say from the begining! he didnt care about the money, or the fame, he just wanted to share his music, and let people know what he thought, or what he was feeling.....like he says

I don't care 2 win awards
All I wanna do is dance
Play music sex romance
And try my best 2 never get bored!!!!!

he loves music...its his pasion!

Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
Purple music does the same 2 my brain
And I'm high, so high
