R U There? - The Work Set Any info on this track? Who sings it, it sounds a little bit like Morris, but I'm not sure, in some parts it sounds more like a woman. Very "Living Colour-esque" track, in my opinion. | |

Ahh yes, well, would you not like the version you have in a nice updated version with better sound quality on a lot of tracks and in chronological order? It's free too.
I did not have the entire The Work set so i cannot make an honest comparison, but the people i trust tell me that Work It 2.0 is the one to have, so i did, and i love it.

The Work is a fucking mess. The songs are in a chaotic order, MANY tracks come from mp3. Even the guy who did it compiled The Work (Enhanced Edition) when he saw many available sources were beating his quality.
But even that Enhanced Version is a mess, and the quality still leaves a lot to be desired.
You say 'but what's the difference except for sound quality?' Are you joking? Is that not enough of a reason to dump The Work?
Work It 2.0 (Updated Edition) follows a much better and logical order for the songs, offers much better quality, much less mp3-sourced tracks (there's a bunch only available in that crappy format).
I'm a bit lazy to go through my data now, but I'm sure Prince plays guitar on all the Margie Cox tracks.

R U There? was recorded in January 1989. Sheila E plays drums on the track, but i'm not 100% sure of Prince's involvement, it's likely he played guitar.

On disc three of Work It 2.0 there is a song called "Loving You" by The Rebels but on my version it's just a slightly longer version of "Hard To Get." Is there a song called "Loving You" or just two slightly different versions of the same song? | |

That question is really a matter of opinion and personal taste. Because the collection is so vast, your question is a difficult one to answer. For me, having the 8 Loring Park instrumentals is a great thing, and they are in really good quality. Other highlights for me would be most of the Parade outtakes and unreleased tracks. Really, the list could (and does) go on and on.

True True. This is a great place to start though.
I'm more or less concerned with understanding which tracks are of the lowest and highest quality, reason being, while I'd still like to have the tracks, some of them aren't very 'listenable'.

Yeah, I think there are over 40 hours of music so picking out the highlights is very difficult.
The fifteen minute, mostly instrumental "U Gotta Shake Something" is one of my favourites. | |

Yeah, that is a great track. It would have been better without the "live audience" overdub, but that is just my taste, it's great to have music like this available.

Indeed, certain tracks on 30 Years Of Unreleased Funk and of course Box Of Chocolates are in better quality than on Work It 2.0, and probably other boots too. But as a sheer collection, Work It 2.0 takes a lot of beating, maybe it's time for a Work It 3.0.
