The 'Gett Off' cassingle...

Hi people!

Did anyone else have the cassingle of Gett Off? It's still my favourite version of the song, but I've never seen a digital copy on any cd release (the Gett Off maxi doesn't have it). It's got the "everything about you just screams of a real sexy affair" verse, does away with the silly woodblock solo percussion section, and is (unfortunately) censored. Similarly, I've never seen the b-side, 'Horny Pony', on any official disc, either (but I've since been hooked up in that regard).

Did this version of the song just slip into obscurity, or is it out there somewhere?

I'm not sure of the version of Gett Off you are talking about, but Horny Pony ended up on the UK cd single of Cream.

I had the cassingle and wore it out back then... but I thought the song was the same...

But honestly, I remember noting the woodblock part when all that was avaliable was that cassingle. I was even trying to recreate the beat and sound on my Amiga computer.

confuse There are so many Gett Off mixes and AKAs of them that I never thought there could be a cassingle-only version which didn't show up on CD. My guess is that the version you're after is in fact on one of the various Euro, Japanese or US CD releases.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Horny Pony was also on the Cream UK CD single.

It should be the same as the first track on this CD release (reversed "ass" censor): http://www.discogs.com/Pr...ase/110559

Note that the timing of the cassette is 4:27 and the CD is 4:31, which may have thrown you off your search.

Yes, I know the version you are talking about but no idea where to find it, sorry.

On a similar note, anyone heard the 1990 version of Gett Off??

squirrelgrease, I do suspect that that's the very disc I was hoping existed... gonna have to track that one down!

ufoclub, I swear the woodblock wasn't on that version, 'causing I remember being so annoyed by it when D&P finally came out. I bet you a beer! razz

TheDigitalGardener, I didn't know that... one more item for the shopping list!

Marvelette, yes I've had that version forever (on the Canadian cd single). But it also has the woodblock, which I hate! lol

Sexualchocolate, yes, I have that. Though the title is actually 'Get Off', which I guess explains why the second song needed an extra 't'!

PurpleDiamond2009, oh, I haven't had that cassingle in years. But back in '91, four friends and I were all working in the same kitchen, and we wore that sucker out! Well, until it fell into a roasting pan, when it was summarily retired. Greasy, indeed! lol

Thank you guys for being so helpful... why did I expect to be attacked for asking this? razz

By "cassingle", do you mean the 2 track cassette single with Horny Pony as the B side? If so that version does not have the "everything about you just screams of a real sexy affair" verse. At least the US version doesn't. It does have the backwards "ass" though.

Are u referring 2 the US Cassette Single?

It contained the Single Version. It's on the CD Maxi single.

1. Gett Off - (Single Remix, Single remix)
2. Gett Off - (Houstyle)
3. Violet the Organ Grinder
4. Gett Off - (Flutestramental)
5. Gangster Glam
6. Clockin' the Jizz - (Instrumental)
7. Gett Off - (Extended Remix, Extended remix)

I'm guessing you mean the UK Single Remix version.

There were 2 single edits of Gett Off, the regular one which was used worldwide and is virtually the same as the album version (just with the word "ass" reversed) and the UK edit, which includes the "real sexy affair" verse, but is actually shorter. Both versions were just listed as "Single Remix". The version you're after was released on the UK/German 3 track CD Single.

Gett Off - UK/German CD Single - W0056CD

1. Gett Off (Single Remix)

2. Gett Off (Urge Single Edit)

3. Gett Off (Purple Pump Mix)

Horny Pony wasn't included on this CD Single, but was included on the UK/German 3 track CD single for Cream.

Cream - UK/German CD Single - W0061CD

1. Cream

2. Horny Pony

3. Gangster Glam

^ thumbs up! Eyewish wants the 4:00 version vs the 4:31 "Single Remix" then. Of course, timings will vary slightly depending on the rip.

Thank you guys for the help, and the amazing attention to detail! I guess here in Canada, we got that 4:00 version on our cassingle... and our cd maxi-single doesn't have any 'single edit' at all, just the extended and the remixes.

The Extended Mix is best of course, but I always prefered the Single Version over the LP. The LP version is butchered all to hell.

Yes, the "album version" and both "single remixes" are all just shorter edits of the "Extended Remix", which should really just be considered the 'full length version' of the song.

The "Extended Remix" itself was a 'club mix' of the original "damn near 10 minutes" version released on the birthday 12" single. The original (and unreleased) album version was an edit of this. However, Prince liked the 'club mix' so much that it ended up replacing the "damn near 10 minutes" mix as the 'finished version' of the song, reducing the "damn near 10 minutes" mix to a 'demo' or 'early mix'. The original album version of the song was roughly about 5 minutes long and included the "Naw, little cutie, I ain't drinkin" section, which is why the lyrics appear on the album. This was then replaced at the last minute by the single edit of the "extended remix" when Prince decided that that version was the definitive one.

When was the last time he sang this song live anyway? Someone told me a version was done at the London O2 Arena Shows in 2007?
