When he settled in for "Gingerbread Man," the audience was right in the palm of his hand. Meaning that, if he gives the audience a great new song to hear, they will not only accept it, they will love it (granted, it was a song based on "The Question of U," so I realize it lessens my point somewhat...but I think the point still stands:-D ).
I loved the concert entirely, I have to say. Old songs and all, I have had the time of my life at all these East Coast shows. While I have no complaints, I could certainly see that there's room in the show for some new/newer stuff. For example, even though he's sung "Jungle Love" a thousand times now, and even though he has a dozen teleprompters up on that stage, he still messes up the lyrics on that song constantly. It's a great riff, but he seems bored with it and might as well replace it with something else (why not "Sticky Like Glue"? It's a fun song, it would sound good live, and the audience would enjoy it). |

I've gone to three of the four concerts so far, and quite honestly, I've enjoyed the heck out of myself at all of them. They have simply been wonderful, no lyin'. For pretty much the entire time, the whole arena is on its feet, singing and dancing and having a great time. That is a LOT of fun to be a part of.
That said, what I think we need to be clamoring for is a different experience. I would hate to see a big arena show where half or more of the audience was sitting down, not knowing any songs and feeling bored. But I would absolutely LOVE to be part of a small-venue show where he was playing a lesser-known set. I hope he will do something like that soon. |

Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, Prince wanted to do a Hits show? Why is this such a big deal. We don't know if the next set of shows (if there is another tour coming) will not be all new stuff. Why is it that he can't do what he wants? This is his show, you pretty much knew what was coming, this has been his setlist the entire year. Why even bother to go if you're going to complain? You don't like the setlist...don't go and just ignore the AMAZING reviews from the AMAZING concerts..pretty simple. Its nice that Prince did a series of hits shows, alot of casual fans came out and want to hear his new stuff because of these shows. So I don't see the big deal! He looked amazing and he sounded amazing, that's what counts! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol |

At these w2a ones he did. they were all around the stage, facing different directions. He didn't seem to look at them either so not sure why they were there... time flies. |

Don't put in quotes something that Prince didn't actually say...it is annoying. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I agree... it is (was?) my hope that he would do something in a more intimate setting for the public while in New York.... Doesn't seem likely... at least for now. I'm glad 2 c that i'm not the only one complaining about these WB years stlists and asking 4 post 1995 material. Wasn't it sweet 2 hear him per4m songs like "She Spoke 2 Me", "When Eye Lay My Hands On U" and "Eye Love U But Eye Don't Trust U Anymore" in 2009?
Hopefully Prince will listen. He never used 2 do what others do, and suddenly he becomes one of these "you shoulda been there when..." artists like every other post-40 years-old star. His recent material is mostly GREAT (IMHO) and deserves 2 b played live!!! Maybe he could find a balance like he used 2, i mean the Lovesexy or Diamonds And Pearls tours DID contain past hits, but focused mostly on new material. That was great and that's what i want!!! |

It doesn't really work that well live. He's been singing it with his lower register since the start, so I suppose he's aware he can't do the falsetto on that one consistently.
People complaining about the setlists should perhaps keep in mind that he doesn't really have a new album out in the US. The newer stuff he's played in his shows for the last 15 years have been been typically from the latest release.
Personally I don't understand why he neglects his 1990s output, though. It's possible that he isn't comfortable with the lyrical content of many of the cuts from that era: too much sex, too much personal history involved, too much negativity, etc.

Look I too would love for Prince to play more stuff past 1990-whatever but these shows have been so much fun and so incredible, I realize that it really doesn't matter too much. Prince is still alive and doing what he wants to do and as long as he's performing and giving his all, then I'm cool with it. Once I accepted that Prince is gonna do what he wants to do, then I stopped worrying about whether he'd play new songs or not. I'm gonna always have fun at a Prince show. Amen to that!
One more thing, Astasheiks, I saw your youtube page. You are complaining about Prince not doing anything past 1991 or post WB stuff but from your page, it doesn't look you are either. I'm just sayin. First they complain that his newer stuff sucks and that Prince doesn't have it anymore, and he hasnt written a hit in 15 years, then they complain that he's not doing any of the new stuff, and if you go back and read the Org during the years when he was only playing current stuff there were complaints too. Although I would love to hear newer stuff too, I am so glad I am not the type to allow such things as only playing hits ruin my fun, and what a blast it has been with the NJ/NY concerts, I am really tempted to try and go again to the Jan 18 show just for old times sakes. Who knows when I will get to see him again. [Edited 12/31/10 15:38pm] |

Accord to this thread obviously Prince is not tired of it. This isssue is based solely upon fan speculation on what's going thru Princes mind when he tours. The bottom line is we don't know. Whenever a true Prince fan gets the chance to interview him they don't ask him flat out why he does what he does. Like most of you I have songs I'd love to hear Prince perform live but realistically know I probably never will. There were people at MSG who didn't even know what 'Uptown' was and that was released worldwide over 25 years ago. So how they hell are they gonna know 'Sticky Like Glue' from a british tabloid release from a few months back. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming! |
