Prince trying to recover a bit of his sex appeal

Some will say Prince never stopped being his royal badness

and that he wrote Mellow and other sex themed songs.

But Prince really changed a lot in the last decade.

He become more rigid,more conservative,he

preached a lot on his concerts.

Do you think Prince realised that he got too much into dogma

and he want to restore a bit of more sexual side

of Prince instead of conservative?

Fan reports says he is more loose on the stage

and more like the old Prince.

Do you think he will find a good balance of sex

and religion and do you think Prince will surprise

us with performing his more raw songs

,because nobody expect that from him?

He did go a bit more conservative at the beginning of the decade with TRC and One Night Alone. But he recovered post 2004. 3121 was very much the more liberal Prince. And by 2007, I witnessed him jam on both "Head" and "Erotic City" in London. biggrin

I'm probably reading way too much into it, but my take on the poster of him standing in front of the Controversy album cover was his way of trying to convey that he was still the same guy.

If he was truly trying to avoid the sexy aspect of his career, he would distance himself from the Controversy album, not try and play up the connection.

i totally agree...

i think this is prince's way of hinting that he may be more open to the past than he was before...

i feel like prince sank to the bottom of the ocean with the JW stuff and is now making his way back up for air....

sorry, but you are who you are .. and i just dont think a person who is so curious, so challenging, so sexually charged can do a complete about face like he did.

yes, we change over time... sure.. .but prince did a total halt and a total 180 degree change very quickly....

maybe its just me, but something doesnt sound right......

and i have to say... that those early prince albums mean so much to me... and it felt like prince totally turned his back on those years and that music and showed very little 'respect' for it.. but at the same time, just expected everyone to completely 'respect' his new point of view that completely shunned the past.... i felt a little betrayed by prince for a while when he was almost apologizing for his earlier music / persona.

when i saw that pic of him in front of the controversy album... i had CHILLS.....

its a great picture, it also shows how well he has aged.. but also, it was just cool to see him acknowledge his past.... its the most exciting musical legacy ever produced!

man, i need that poster.

Agree...and to add to that: Prince was "preachy" in the 80's sometimes as well. The tours for Controversy, Purple Rain, and Lovesexy come to mind.

Oh that was actually him standing in front of the Controversy album cover? I thought Prince was put in digitally. Like photoshopped the to pictures together.

Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I saw Wednesday nights show, and I was so pleased see 'my' Prince back.... and sexy.... with no apology. There's no need for him to step back from who he was as a man or as an artist, ever. Stages of a persons life are normal, his happen to be recorded in song.

There's also no need for him to be who people expect him to be. However, the music and the man is hotter, and more free, and more innovative when he uses the stage to exorcise demons rather than contain them smile

Everyone goes through their dance with religion in one way shape or form. I was saddened by his descent into JW, but have stuck with him hoping that he finds his way back to being the free man in mind, music and ideas that i'm moved by and inspired by. The preachiness to me is/was othing more than what anyone else goes through when they need to grab onto something when they need to feel some stabilizing influence....what else do you do when things you can't control become overwhelming? Everyone needs to explore....

I don't know how he can reconcile his religious beliefs with his relationships with women, or maybe that dicotomy is what makes it so fascinating in the first place.....but I prefer the Prince who didnt run from sexuality OR religion and he approached both with equal amounts of respect, raunch and skepticism smile

And fwiw, dirty Prince looked like he had alot more fun than JW Prince, imo. I like seeing him smile and enjoy himself.

Beside middle section of the song Controversy i find nothing preachy about Controversy tour.

Most of the time during Controvery tour he liked to say

You know i can't leave until i Jack U Off and he went into that song.

or:Is anybody wet?

This song is dedicated to all the girls in the house ,before launching into I Wanna B e your Lover

.

For me Prince started preaching during 1997 with Stauros stuff and latter during One Nite Alone tour.

But Prince was so on fire and so inspired during that tour that it didn't bother me at all smile

well hell i only seen a silluotte of a prince onstage humping on a bed

this german dude friggin gets a fake dick connected to a hose and "ejacuates on bandmembers, drinks it himself and shoots it into the audience.."

prince humping a guitar or simulating twisting his tongue around in circles and eating out a girl is so much more classy and sensual then this german guy.

oh yeah. i forgot about when john 5 licked marilyn manson's asshole onstage. for real.

why dont ppl just have sex onstage already? lol

In my opinion, Prince doesn't have to try to recover anything ... he HAS sex appeal, whether he just stands there or "uses" it. What has obvioulsy changed is that he is allowing himself to express his sexy side more again! I mean, his dancing recently - espcially at the end of "Kiss" - that's as sexy as anything he did in the past. Just maybe more subtle, instead of "dirty". He doesn't need to hump anything, I rather see him move his hips in that rhythmic dance routine! razz Then there are also those special glances, the teasing of the audience ... just like 20 years ago!! He is as sexy as ever, has a great body and obviously keeps it in shape and I love that he shows us that again! biggrin (open shirt and sexy moves)

I admit that I was pleasantly surprised when he came back to Europe for the fall tour and the change in his appearance on stage was so obvious, compared to the summer concerts. His clothes alone showed that he was bringing out more of the sexy side again, because in summer he wore mostly the white 20ten outfit which, of course, did not allow any sudden unbuttoning. wink While I am really happy just seeing him live on stage, Prince doing sexy things certainly adds to the excitement, no doubt about that! Right?? wink

And I agree that Prince was making a statement by posing in front of the Controversy poster. What exactly he meant to say with it - only he knows. But it feels like he is acknowledging his past work. It reminds me of what he said at the concert in Milan "these are my songs, I love each and every one of them" ....

I've always believed, and maybe it's just me, but I've always believed that its the sex appeal that has garnered controversy that has garnered Prince attention. And, for some reason, from what I've seen and heard from the Welcome 2 America Tour, some people are seeing that Prince, or prince, or whatever he wants to be called this week, is going back and trying to rekindle that sex appeal. Case in point--we're all talking about it. So he's doing something right. wink
