Ah, this is new. I never really thought about playing Prince songs when I'm lonely. I guess that's because I always play Prince, but this one actually made me stop and think about what one's I really play when I feel lonely. Wonderful thread idea.

Thanks. But I stand by my statement. I just don't get the wallowing in self pity over being lonely. Get up and DO something about it. I understand and empathize with people who do get lonely. (The spouse of someone in the military for example.)

You're right. Also, acknowledging isn't really the same as wallowing though. Its good to be in touch with one's emotions and feelings -- helps us to understand who we are.

How come? Computer Blue seems like a perfect answer to me. I used it in a personal ad way back in 91 (before the internet). Seemed to described my loneliness at that time perfectly.

For some reason...Somebody's Somebody is always satisfying to me when I feel out of sorts...especially on a rainy night...

I really wish I could answer your question. It is a really dark tune on an otherwise colorful album, and maybe that's the reason that it fits in the "play when I'm lonely" slot. It actually makes sense that its the darkness of the song. It has a lot of energy, too, but, then again...so does Darling Nikki.

I listened to Alannis Morrisett, Evanessence, Linkin Park, and Toni Brackston.... angry fuck him music. It kept me strong. That was the only time I felt lonely.

I listen to Prince when I am happy. His music has a way of making me think of good times, even his sadder music is just sexy to me.

slower songs like something in the water, cuz I think it explains that alot of people are the same and only want one thing =/. atleast that's what I think about. also if I was Your girlfriend, purple rain, scandalous, international lover..

I have just discovered that one! Love it. I've been listening to it quite a lot lately, regardless of my mood.

I can partly relate. Sometimes when I feel lonely I put on Dreamin' About U, Somebody's Somebody, One Nite Alone, She Gave her Angels, Electric Intercourse, I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore, One of your Tears, Pheromone... just to intensify the feeling somehow. I often dance to them too. In other cases, I do exactly the opposite - I listen to more cheerful and carefree songs such as D.M.S.R., Emancipation, Billy Jack Bitch, Come, Kiss, Friend,Lover,Sister,Mother/Wife, When the Lights go Down, The Holy River, Get on the Boat ... And dance to them! Sometimes I do both, like you. Sometimes I don't dance, but just lay down and explore the feeling. Depends. But his music is pretty much always a part of my day.
