What does Prince owe you?

The man owes me nothing. I imagine he owes some of you a t-shirt. As a fan of however long, what do you feel he owes you, if anything, and why? This is not a bait thread, this is a valid question.

I'm just saying...

I am used to it. I believe you are too. It remains, however, a valid question.

Depends on what hat Prince is wearing at any given time.

As a record releasing artist? A good album. We've paid for the CD (etc).

As a performance artist? A good performance. We've paid for the tickets.

As an owner of a website that sells his wares? Fair business practices.

As a human being? Common decency and respect for human life.

As an indivdual person...nothing!

As part of a loyal and dedicated fanbase...that's spent the better part of 30+ years contributing to his professional and financial well-being...a little fucking respect and appreciation would be nice!

Nothing,

Prince is also a human and not a music-machine were you can put a coin in and a new album flips out.

We've been spoiled fans with an album almost every calender year. (and, yes there could have been more)

In Holland we say: "The glass is half-full or the glass is half-empty."

Not a damn thing, but I do appreciate all the music he has shared with us over the years. Fans get to make personal choices as to which musician/artist's work they like, and also have the choice to move on, if they don't care for an artist's music. Musicians/artist's don't get to personally pick their fans, and no one holds a gun to anyone's heads and forces them to listen to any particular musician/artist's music.

I'm glad to see all the people who said he owes them nothing. That is also how I feel. There may be changes one would like him to make, but he OWES us nothing. He is just a person like us underneath the fame and money (or lack thereof). If anything, it is us who owe him something: Respect. You may not like all the choices he has made, but at least he has made them. As a musician, I appreciate all that he does. He could retire tomorrow and I would just be glad to have witnessed the ride.

Nothing at all. Considering the amount of bootleg material I have in my possession I probably owe him something by now.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Um, most people dislike Prince's choices that he made which directly affected the fans. Not bad albums, but bad business. To say Prince is above that stuff, which is what you do in your post, is retarded.

But even his bad business decisions/practices doesn't give any of us the right to claim he owes us something. He's not running a Ponzi scheme.

If we don't like how he handles things, then we can choose to get disgusted enough to stop patronizing him. shrug
