Concert idea for Prince This topic might have been brought up before, but if Prince did a smaller venue tour of b-sides and his lesser know gems, that would be amazing!
It wouldn't be cost-effective... I realize this. It's also alot of work on his part... but imagine a set list of songs that weren't commercial hits... both old and new material.
Even if it was an acoustic set where he spoke to the audience, similar to the MTV session (that was never officially aired). That would really be something artistic, and fresh.
Songs like Crucial, material from The Truth, Dolphin... and even songs like "I Love U But don't Trust U Anymore.". (I'm not a fan of that one, but live and artistically done, it would be great to see Prince perform this.)
Even some of his songs from 20Ten and Planet Earth... which weren't hits to the masses, would be fantastic to smaller venues of appreciating fans.
I just think that would be awesome if Prince held a stellar "smaller and intimate" show.
Like Prince said in Big White Mansino.... Maybe one day.
(That would be another great song to hear performed acoustically in a small setting.)
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

He should do like 7 shows across the country
an appreciation tour, with stage set-up combination like 1999 Sign o the Times & Lovesexy
Have band members from the Time Brenda Bennett Clare Fischer Sheila E(and ex band members) the Revolution Andre Cymone Jill Jones, Eric Leads, NPG members, Cat
Let the Family or the Time open
And put out some songs hardly played, never played, b-sides, protege numbers etc etc
Not the usual, just give fans some Uptown, recorded DVD & CD and cell it. It would make a killing

Bruce Springsteen did something really cool this year. At selected shows, he would choose an album and play it all the way through, front to back.
He didn't play every album he's ever recorded but he did most of them. And the crowd loved it.

With comments seen here on the org about show setlist and such I think most fans who know his actual catalog and not just hits are starving for this. I know I am. I loved ONA because it focused on lesser known music. I about sh*t when I heard Other Side Of The Pillow. He could do a theater tour like this just like ONA was and make money. As I recall ONA did pretty well. The show I went to in New Orleans was sold out and there were still people trying to get in.

good idea, but it seems as if Prince is doing his best to bring in songs that are not so well-known by the general public, new tunes and also all-time favs...4 now, his format is effective, not to mention treats that come from the aftershows

For to long the Aftershows have been like a Soul Review concert, playing too many covers and not enough of his own, even mixing songs like Sexy Dancer with le Freak. I'd rather hear le Grind

Dalia's Picks of songs Prince should add to his set for an imminent/or future concert are:" Still Would Stand All Time"" Gotta Broken Heart Again""The Dance""International Lover""Somewhere Here On Earth""Crazy You""La,La,La Means I Love You""I Rock, Therefore I Am""And God Created Woman""She Loves Me For Me""Mustangmix"Since Prince has over 100 Hit Songs/countless total songs, Remix and Acoustic versions of some of those songs should be released and sung at his concerts. Just a suggestion.[Edited 1/7/11 9:29am]

I posted an idea like this before. Called the Gemini tour. where he would do AT LEAST 2 shows in each town (full shows not after-shows) in which one was focused on his hits and the other on more obscure songs. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Nice set list
La,La,La Means I Love You
Isn't that a cover? I'd replace it with Noon Rendezvous or Desire

Desire for SURE. that is a great song. And it is now even more fitting than when it was recorded. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

mm hmm, and the studio version he did with the Revolution with the guitar solo was just as awesome, he could easily do both versions

I once had the idea of Prince giving a 24-hour long show with no covers as a final show before retirement. I know it's never going to happen and it's nearly impossible, but I think Prince could give an amazing show without performing a song twice. The man wrote at least a thousand songs, he can fill the time for sure You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

how about the 12 INCH TOUR
instead of these huge stadiums with a medley of shortened hits sung by the audience and lame back up singers
all 12 inch versions in small clubs .. not at 3 in the morning but at like 10pm so normal fans who sleep sometimes can see it. and no boring kickdrum jams where he sings 5 different songs over one long boring groove .. the songs need to be worked properly like on the 12 inch disks
his backing band is in desparate need of some fire in the belly .. his bands have been so boring since the npg .. and i am including the npg .. lovesexy band had a great sound but the revolution had better fire and passion .. he needs to find some more brave and inspiring musicians to work with .. his whole band sounds tired before they even start.
prince will have to sing ALL THE LYRICS .. and ps prince .. you've been doing it for years but it must stop. you HAVE TO STOP YELLING AT THE AUDIENCE TO SING, CLAP DANCE .. its annoying and it ruins the music when you are always "get up .. sing .. i said sing dammit .. fuck it i'm leaving if you don't sing" just fuckin play yer music .. they will sing if they want to and it will sound much better without you yelling like an obnoxious brat over it all

I agree, Sheila started doing that on the Romance 1600 tour
I loved the Prince who was in his own little world on stage and we were voyeurs

He should play a couple of songs from every one of his albums and for each album he should wear the outfits he wore during those phases in his career. Can't imagine him in his gold trousers from the Prince tour or the bikini briefs from Dirty Mind making a reappearance any time soon, though! I'd like to see him in the 1999 rags again!

i think i would enjoy the batman part of the set with his half joker face .. that would be cool .. lemon crush and vickie waiting
how bout a small club tour where he just plays each record with its b-sides .. 7 shows per record .. then switch the record .. he could easily charge 300 per ticket for a short 90 minute set (actually thats the standard for most other bands if not less time)

I wish he would do a tour where the fans picked the songs they play everynight. I have seen several different artists do this and it is GREAT!! You never know what they will request. The band play it wether they no it or not. Trust me it is FANTASTIC!! I wish Prince would do this. They usually have a person going around random in the crowd

More than the setlist, I would be interested in hearing Prince in a smaller and more intimate setting of musicians: Prince on acoustic guitar, Renato on piano, and maybe Sheila E. on percussion/backing vocal. They seem to have good chemistry on stage and it also seems like they keep continue to inspire each other musically. I think a trio like that, as simple as that, would be interesting to hear.

i would be so down 4 this ..NO HITS ..NO COVERS do at least one track from every album that wasn't a hit ..i would so be there in a heartbeat man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

That would be hot, you couldn't help but go back and listen to those songs after the concert was done.

Great idea! And for an album like Purple Rain where all the songs were hits, he could play 17 Days, or Electric Intercourse. Or maybe even have Dez Dickerson come onstage to perform Modernaire. Imagine that!
And I would love to hear Temptation live, or Condition of the Heart in a simple acoustic set... from Around the World in a Day.
And imagine Love or Money being played, along with New Position, or the Screams of Passion.
The man has so many options for a unique show. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

What I'd like to see is somethign that was done at this year's Rock the Bells concert where hip-hop artist selected a particular classic album and performed it from start to finish as they're set.
What would make it really hot is if he reformed the Revolution and performed the three Revolution albums --Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day, and Parade-- with the original members. Or get the SOTT-Lovesexy bands to do those albums.
Just a thought.

For what it's worth, my idea would be to do this set. Full songs, no medleys.
