Prince on Oprah again? Hey Org, Did anyone see Garth Brooks on Oprah last week? Garth was just sitting on a couch with his guitar and Oprah and he played some of his hits. It was really intimate and cool in my opinion. (I'm not a Garth fan). Does anyone think it would be a good move for Prince to do something similar? Or do you think he is done with Oprah after he did her show back in the 90's????
Whay say y'all?

I don't think Prince would like to do another interview with Oprah after the one he did in the '90s. And if he does want to do another interview, I wouldn't want him to. If it's just as cringeworthy as the previous interview, Prince may not want to do interviews for quite a while. And he is just getting more easy on giving interviews, I wish he would stay like that. What was wrong with the interview he did with Oprah? Did something went wrong?

That Oprah event was part of the marketing for Emancipation, his choice to do and done on his very own property. Do you think every single thing they talked about was not planned down to the very last detail?
He would probably have been better off letting his wife come up with the answers, though.

I think an intimate accoustic performance (just the man and his guitar) would be a great career move.

Nothing really went "wrong", but the interview was held just after Prince's son died and he lied about it. The interview didn't seem planned in every detail to me as I found Prince very uncomfortable with some of the questions. And if the interview was planned before shot, I think it's pretty odd Oprah would bring those questions up. That doesn't match her personality, she seems like an integer person to me.
I'm not blaming Oprah or Prince, I'm just saying I don't think they're a good duo. And I've edited my previous post, I hope it's a little more clear now. You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

Yeah, let's get an MTV Unplugged that we never got before. "The voter is less important than the man who provides money to the candidate," - Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens

Forget Oprah. I want him to go on Stern. Real questions, no bullshit tolerated. Never happen, though.

Didn't he already do that with The Art of Musicology?

That wasn't really that long though was it..? Would be nice to see do it (again) though. Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Nothing went wrong...I actually really liked that interview. It showed a different side of Prince, a vurnerable side sort of. He opened himself up alot in that interview and I really enjoyed seeing that. Especially the "sweet, gentle side of him that was super innocent at times." And now with hindsight, I know he was going through so much at that time, you can see him kind of squirm at some questions...
The part that some folks don't like about it is when asked about the status of his baby, he replied "our family exist. We have more kids to have." Then later on when question about the rumors that had been going around, he said "its all good, don't believe everything you hear." He didn't quite lie, he just refused to elaborate on the issue...which is his perogative. He did that on other interviews too around that time. Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I don't think he seemed any more uncomfortable here than he did during that UTCM era MTV interview... and those questions were approved by Prince and asked by his very own manager.
It's not odd those questions were brought up at all, actually. Prince's marketing around Emancipation relied on the idea he was a normal family man with a new child (see songs on the album, see the artwork, see the video for Betcha By Golly Wow (filmed after the baby had passed away, actually) along with all the other press).
It was widespread rumor well before the Oprah interview that his son had passed and I think those questions were allowed because he could directly dismiss them so as not to snowball and over-shadow promotion. People would have spent all their time discussing that instead of the album, etc... You'll note he even showed off the playroom at PP.
Prince has NEVER had a problem refusing to talk about certain topics. He could have easily told Oprah to avoid that, not shown her around the playroom, etc...

Imagine hearing a rumor you were getting fired from your job and you go ask your boss if the rumors are true. He tells you "its all good, don't believe everything you hear." full well knowing the termination paperwork is there in his drawer. That's a lie.
It's perfectly his right to do so, and understandable, but the statement was untrue. He's lied about his parents not both being black, he's lied about his age numerous times. He told other stories right in that Oprah interview.

I'm pretty sure all of the Oprah shows for this season have been planned and scheduled already. It would also appear that a number of them are already "in the can".

I think a "Soundstage" with Tavis hosting, or Austin City Limits. I like "Storytellers" because he can just talk about the songs and what was going on in his life at the time, and just give him a keyboard and a guitar.

DING! that is what he SHOULD do. I've wished this for years. Either go in there with just a guitar or a band...answer some questions, laugh off the ones he doesn't want to answer instead of being all bent outta shape about some questions and play some tunes. If he could just be relaxed on there...it would be BRILLIANT!!! BRILLIANT I say! Howard's last few weeks are upon us...(maybe) and Prince will be in town right around the same time.... this is a possibility!! "not a fan" yeah...ok

Several months ago, before her new season began,Oprah's site was asking viewers to vote for the celebrities that they want to see on her final season.Ya'll could have voted for Prince

Did you hear when Billy Joel was on a couple weeks ago? I'd love for Howard to have Prince sit down and do a segment like this.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yes! it was awesome! except for Billy not singing that much. I actually went out and bought a best of because of it. It would be the greatest if Howard had a sit down like that with Prince. I don't know what it is about that studio but it seems every musical guest always sounds sooooooo amazing, can you imagine what Prince would sound like in there? damn...he really needs to do this. and do it howards way...not come in with all kinds of stipulations and blah blah blah. Just agree to be on Howards show, with howards rules. If he doesn't like a question or doesn't want to answer it...all he's gotta do is laugh it off...Howard gets it when a guest doesn't want to kiss and tell or go into details about certian things...he may try to get an answer a couple times but he will move on if the guest doesn't get upset. course Princey would prolly get all pissy and storm off. "not a fan" yeah...ok

It does not matter that he has done it before, a performance such as this would always be welcome.

Every time I see Oprah's newest episode coming out that P should make a return to let Oprah know what's going on with his life now. I would love to see the FINAL Oprah show have P as the final guest to give it a good send off. She's a admirer of P's music, ya know ...

I thought the whole "don't believe everything you hear.." was in reference to how the situation was handled, all those rumors about Prince doing this and doing that. I never took it to mean that the baby wasn't sick or had died. It was just a way of saying everything you read in the papers ain't true, so do believe it and just leave it at that. Not a lie if he was telling the truth, right? Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Good idea! Yeah, Oprah has always been a Prince fan...would be nice for her to have someone like him that is cool on her show. We all know he can give her a funky send off, his music would be the best to send her off on. Or at least do an interview on her new network...like if he did the first show! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

For that interpretation to have any sort of validity whatsoever, requires one to ignore everything else said (and shown) during the interview ...
OPRAH: "Today he is a new man with a beautiful bride who just gave birth to their first child." --- OPRAH: It's been rumored that the couple's baby boy was born with health problems, and the reports have fans concerned. "What is the status of your baby?"
0{+> : Well, our family exists.
OPRAH: "And all those rumors..."
0{+> : It's all good. Never mind what you hear.
(Combined with shots of playroom, etc...)
It's pretty obvious what any casual viewer would have taken away from that exchange.
