They showed her breasts clearly. I don't remember the scene clearly. I think she was wearing underwear, so it wasn't full frontal nudity.

I was 10 when I first saw this movie on tv. I recorded it and played it over....and over.....and over.... I drove my sister crazy. Why is it rated R? lol That shows how numb or desensitized our generation has become to explicit content. Eeek!

The DVD I have only has an M15+ rating.

In an attempt to answer the OP's question, the movie is rated R for language, nudity, and adult situations. Arguably, the so called "sex scene" does not show any depiction of sexual intercourse. It's only groping and kissing.

On another note, legend has it that PR was cursed with an X rating before being edited further but I have the hardest time trying to decipher why. My only guess is that Al Magnoli submitted a semi-final cut of the film with the rape scene included during the Ride of Rage sequence. We're talking about sexual violence that otherwise had no real purpose in the context of the film. That's if the scene was filmed. Who knows?

ohhhh the kid overpowering a drunk apple's? maybe its cause im so sexually frustrated and in need of a man but the kid can overpower me anyday! bring it! i'll leave the door unlocked and try to act surprised.

i laugh at the family guy scene when the robbers break him and meg's coming on to them...so is this where u guys have more way with me? she freaks em out and scares em! priceless!!!

BTW I was 12 when I saw PR and my Granny made me cover my eyes I just love her and I miss her PR is my fav movie of all time-greatest rock movie ever.

I was 3 when I saw Purple Rain the 1st time, loved it since then. The movie should be rated R, IMO, because of Appolonia showing her boobs...wish that part wasn't in there. That's the only part that I wish they would've delete. The part when Prince is rubbing in between her legs, that makes it too much for young eyes. And of course the barn scene, which I swear I don't remember seeing as a kid! Back then, any kind of sex elusions or violence was pretty much given a Rated R. Nowadays, not so much. This movie is PG-13.
