I wonder if this induction will become the opening video to the Welcome 2 America Tour when Prince hits the stage? cool He had some kind of induction opening for Musicology, and 21 Nights shows.

Congrats! Much Love & respect! Thanks 4 the music.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Thanks to the Grammys for ignoring Prince back when "Purple Rain" was actually out. Including the only platinum selling single the entire year("When Doves Cry") that garnered zero nominations.

I'm sure we'll be talking about Eminem's(10 nominations this year) greatness 25 years from now.

Not that I'm a fan, but Eminem's period of commercial domminance has already exceeded Prince's, so yeah, I bet we will.

that seems to go back to WB's issue with prince's output rate. If he would have took 3 to 5 years between his greatness would be much more obvious.

not even close

As of July 18, 2008, Prince was the #16 commercial artist of all time. Eminem didn't even crack the top 100.

Exactly. I was referring to the fact that, more than a decade after his debut, Eminem is still "hot". His latest album is one of, if not the, biggest selling of the year. Prince's comparable moment in the sun was much, much shorter.

I find this confusing too. Everyone seems to have 2zillion grammys nowadays. Prince has earned a few this decade which means that he seriously didnt get his due in the day. Amy Winehouse-deserved or not-gets five in one night. I'm assuming as with the music industry in general that they give out more now on a fashion rather than the music snobbery (and oh yes lord please bring it back) as was.

Question: Is the album or song Purple Rain in the Hall Of Fame now? It doesn't actually say which it is and either could have been chosen, but I assumed it was the LP.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

it seems to be the album that was inducted. because the names of the songs are in " " and Purple Rain is it italics

He does have an Oscar and a Grammy from that album. He was nominated for Album of the Year, but Lionel won.

He was also classified in the Rock section, but won R&B thanks to Chaka Khan's cover.

But what I don't know is why he's not on the Library of Congress list of recordings to be preserved. They're not even as picky as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, so maybe 10 emails asking for "Purple Rain" to be added might do the trick. I already sent mine to them.

I think the oscar was for best orginal song score for purple rain.

he said "commercial dominance", what better way to measure than than with hit singles?

US Album sales: Prince is #36 all time, Eminem is #61.

Prince's first #1 album in the US was in 1985, his most recent in 2006

Prince's first top 10 single was in 1982, his most recent in 1994, he had a top 10 single every year in between, which at the time was a record streak.

Prince's first grammy was in in 1985, his most recent in 2008

Eminem has a long ways to go to match Prince and really has no shot at his string of consecutive years with top 10 hits.

that's for the album, not the song. There is a separate award for original song, which oddly, Prince wasn't even nominated for.

total sales. that chart has Janet Jackson as being more 'successful' than Michael!?

and I was not saying Skittles was more successful just that chart posted doesn't provide an accurate raking of success.
