Prince never played Erotic City enough...

Always wondered why he didn't mix this one in on the Purple Rain tour. If it weren't for the fuck/funk mixup and the fact it was a B-side, it would have been No. 1 more weeks than WDC. The Lovesexy tour version was crap. All those snippets and never the full song. Boo.

hhhhdmt

and the sad thing is that he will never play it again

Anyway i dont know if the erotic city voice would sound as good live as it did ojn the record. I am not sure but weren't his vocals on erotic city sped up? I could be wrong

funkomatic

That's because back in the days some of Prince's studio tracks sounded that good that he didn't need to rearrange them to death in order to get something worthwhile.

Sheila E. performed it during her Glamorous Life & Romance 1600 shows

I love the 6.7.1984 rock version too

Love the song, remember when it first started playing on the radio, real simple not a lot but just enough, I think it was my 1st intro to Sheila E.

Which turned up the energy, because I was always a big fan of Prince & the world he created ie proteges. Who was she? what was her image going to be like? etc etc

Yeah, Sheila also played it as part of her set as support act on the Purple Rain tour, which would explain why Prince did not include it in his set.

I know

that's one of those lifetime moments that if you could have been there, you wouldn't need to see another show again

What would have been cool is if Sheila joined the band for Erotic City

Gonna go find this now. Is that June 7 or July 6?

Also, Sheila and her band killed this song during the PR tour. Just f--ing killed it. Awesome stuff. And didn't Prince come out an do the song with her? So technically, he did perform the song during the tour.

Wait, this is his birthday basement rehearsal, right? Never mind. Have it and love it.

Sheila E did a short tour of her own at clubs prior to the Purple Rain tour. I know Prince guested at least once. I don't believe he ever came out and performed it with her on the Purple Rain tour.

Erotic City was also rehearsed for the Nude Tour and is on a rehearsal boot. I'd have to do some digging to see if it was ever performed on that tour.

Now I know I wan't the only one thinkin' this. He never did didn't he?? It is such a great song, the same goes with "17 Days".

We only get Erotic City for his bday concert and rehearsals. I know "17 Days" is in one or two Purple Rain concerts and in rehearsals. You could tell he loved that song by how many ways/versions he played it.

Whenever we hear it it's always great biggrin

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

I thought I read somewhere (probably here) that he came out to sing the song with her during the opening of the PR tour. But that could be totally wrong. In the Miami performance of the song (last show of the tour), there's a point at the beginning of the song where the crowd goes wild, and I've just assumed it was when Prince came walking out. It sounds like him singing too (but I could be wrong about that too). I thought he sang the first verse or so and then went backstage and left Sheila to it.

Wow. I've never heard a live version of it that I didn't absolutely love.
