Trey Anastasio owns Prince on guitar! 12/30 - 1/1 at MSG!

I love Prince, but on guitar there is no comparison, trey owns. See for yourself 12/30 at MSG..

I'd rather just watch a video instead of flying to new york and buying tickets for some guy I don't even know.

Truly, I have seen Phish live a few times, and although Trey is a wondeful guitarist, it is totally apples and oranges. He doesn't try to do what Prince does on guitar...he plays a lot more acoustic, etc.

Lastly, Trey has about an ounce of the charisma or stage presence that Prince does...I don't mean that as a slam, it's just a whole different thing altogether. A bit like comparing Jerry Garcia to James Brown.

Treys style is way more progressive and more jazz funk fusion rock. Of course trey cant sing like Prince but on guitar Trey BLOWS HIM AWAY. Plus Trey has a better bass player, Mike Gordon. Charisma? trey has loads of it and hes not pretenious like the purple one. Way more of a normal person. Prince would never jam with trey (like herbie hancock did or bela fleck did) cuz he knows hed get owned.

Also its much easier to get Prince Tix than Phish tix at MSG. Whys that? they play the same amount of days and Princes tix cost more. Ill be at both, then Lonnie Smith and then Sharon Jones.

Haha just trying to spread some knowledge. I know most wont even listen, but Trey is the best guitarist around (steve kimock is only close in my eyes). I just wish Trey and Prince would jam together, but Prince is too much of a jackass to ever play guitar with anyone who is even close to his skill level. At least Trey LOVES his fans and isnt a scared little weirdo...

Yeah right. Trey is so much more versatile than Prince its not even funny. Prince plays the same ole blues almost every solo.

Prince is def a better song writer (lyric wise) and singer, but on the axe Trey just destroys him.

Hes got better chops, more knowledge, more feel, better tone, more licks and isnt scared to JAM WITH ANYONE or to look people around him in the eyes! lol

Maybe one day yall will experience the best live concert there is and that is Phish, you purple hippees..

Trey is 73 on this list and prince isnt on it...

I LOVE Prince. Just wanted to see what the Prince crowd thought of Treys playing or even if yall know who he is. So Prince plays the night before Phish starts their 3 day run at MSG. This is just a heavenly run of music for me and im SO stoked! Hopefully Prince sticks around on 12/30 and observes, as im sure Trey will attend Princes show on the 29th. there are so many other musicians who master their own craft. Nothing new under the sun. Being unique is what makes an artist/musician different.

Prince's craft is his versatility on different instruments and genres/styles, his enormous drive to perform and with often an aftershow including different arrangements/improvisations.

No one has to be put down in order to praise another.

Dude, you have got to be kidding me...??? Phish is a decent garage band at best. But, I guess everybody's entitled to their own opinion. So, you go on and enjoy your Phish!!

I do have to ask, though...Why go on a Prince fan site to tell us how much better this guy is (allegedly) than Prince?? I promise you, I won't go onto any Phish fan site to gloat about how much more talented Prince is than all of them combined.

I am very familiar with Phish and Trey's off projects. I personnaly like Prince better but that dude is right, Trey is a much better guitar player. It doesnt really matter who is better though but he is right. Phish is another band though that is better live. They are INCREDIBLE Live. Their albums dont do them justice

Sorry, but I disagree. I don't like 2 compare players on any instrument, but this is way off. Prince is a monster on guitar in many ways. Trey knows it and respects it. It's all of his other skills in writing, arranging, vocal harmonies, as well as keys, bass, drums, etc, that effectively detract from his recognition in terms of his guitar playing. Fans here on the Org, and some unqualified critics in the media have criticized his jazz fusion, etc, but there are many in the industry that hear clearly what Prince is playing.

I'm willing to check him out, what the fuck. Prince's fans are music lovers, all you had to do is ask instead of creating artificial conflict lol. Many of us like a ton of people and can objectively say we prefer certain aspects of different artist to prince. For me he's just more complete and the experience of his output is more of a diverse listen.
