without being ironic/deifferent etc i LOVE wedding feast

to me it encaspulates everything i love about princes latter day music

a big grin erupted over my face when i first heard and i still love it

its prince whimsy at its best

like a naughty younger brother to moviestar or my little pill

plus i had one of the best days of my life listening to that album when it first came out

(thanks to charity and auckland NZ!)

"Wedding feast" shows Prince as a musician who not only knows his funk, but can venture into other genres - even the most unlikely ones - and still sound like like Prince. Now that is a mark of uniqueness.

I can't say I especially love it but I certainly don't understand the hate for it. It's harmless enough and an amusing aside.

Not too long after it was released, I discovered samples of TRC on Amazon.

I hadn't followed much of his work in the last half of the 90s, so this was pretty much the first new P music I'd listened to in years.

At the time, Wedding Feast was the track that sold me. boxed

Given that there were only snippets of each track, and yes, I've always felt it was a segue not a song in its own right, I just loved the quirkiness of it. I still do.

I agree that it's just a bit of fun and certainly wouldn't try to argue the artistic merits of it any more than I would the segues on prince, etc... but it is even more amusing to me that it seems to push so many people's buttons to the extent that they seem to hate it.

But damn you for making this thread, because I'd managed to keep this quiet until I felt the need to offer some support in here wink

I don't know if I love it but I can appreciate it for what it is and the purpose it serves on the album.

I like it. It's a rare bit of humor on an otherwise humorless and dogmatic album. I think people who overreact to it are weird.

I think anyone who thinks of Wedding Feast as being a "song" and doesn't like this is taking Prince to seriously, Prince even giggles at the end of it. It's an interlude or transition, an intermission of the "concept album" if you will. I find it quite brilliant and funny. I think this is truly Prince's last "great" album. Yeah, Prince should never be taken too seriously, afterall, he is a human.

The Rainbow Children

The Gold Experience

The Symbol Album

Lovesexy

Sign 'O' The Times

Parade

Around The World In A Day

Purple Rain

1999

Controversy

Dirty Mind

IMHO, to understand Prince is to understand these albums...in their entirety.

I don't get that either. If something on that album is to be hated, it must be that annoying God-voice.

Thank you!

And the lyrics are funny in the same incomprehensible way he has sometimes:

Brother dear brother, I came as quickly as I could
The Digital Haze is broken,The Banished Ones r gone 4 good, gone 4 good"

Now there must b a wedding
Now there must b a feast
A feast, a feast
A smorgasbord at least
A brunch, a munch
Of cake if just a piece

Not just a vat of chitlins
Or turkey meat u c
We r what we eat
So we must eat a leaf
We'll dine under a tree
Unless it snows!

The narration in the God-like voce makes the whole concept album. It's a story told by God or a God. smile This album is perfect just as it is, any changes to it would not make it what it is.

Porbably the fourth or fifth best song of that crappy album; a nice experiment, with a little more ambition it could have been classic weird material, like his 86 stuff...
