Hi all,

Yesterday I was in Antwerp witnessing a ROCKING show (meaning he played an awfull lot of guitar). That's not the reason for this thread actually.... During this show I somehow got the impression that his Jehova Witnesses days might be over. I am not saying they ARE, it's just an impression I got.

Why?

One of the songs performed was ''The Love We Make''; stunning and rough but that's not the point. At some point he actually said that we shouldn't be looking for answers above, pointing to heaven but instead looking at ourselves, inside each and every one of us, reverting to his old dogmatic self-regulatory stance.. quote : "stop looking above, look here inside, inside every one of you". Makes one wonder what he meant by that....

Then there's more (admittedly small!) clues:

- before the show, UNCENSORED (!) versions of Erotic City and Rebirth of the Flesh (title alone could be a statement) were played.

- Cream is back in the setlist.

- Ida Nielsen's and Cassandra's clothing was , let's just say, not what one would wear to a Jehova's witness gathering smile as opposed to the clothing worn during Musicology and later on...

-dancing during Kiss is not just slightly suggestive anymore....

Oh well, it couldt just be wishfull thinking and hoping to see things but anyway, might be interesting to hear what some of you make of this? After all, jehova's witnesses are quite strict in their teachings and somehow this all just doesn't seem to fit.....

...and Prince has indeed explained it, even admitting he was staring in a mirror when writing it. lol

I was there in the 80's. It's totally different. He censors.

Prince of Prince and the Revolution censors his own fucking music. It's sad. It's pathetic and it's completely whacked. I am a huge Prince fan who can recite every record from 78 to 90, but when the JW crap started seeping into not only his personal life but his career it was the beginning of the end. I love good music and Prince music is no good these days and it's a direct result of his religious dealings.

I've said it once, I'll say it again. Prince being a Jehovah's Witness didn't "change" him nearly as much as some people would have you believe.

His lyrics are still sexual (some of the most being on The Rainbow Children album). He still rocked the makeup, and the heels. He still performed songs about doing it. Hell, in 1999/2000 he was a Jehovah's witness and he was still peforming "Darling Nikki" full blown stage humping and all.

Bottom line: I never believed the hype. Prince has been preaching in concert since at least 1981 (Second Coming anyone?) in 1998-ish Prince stopped cussing and changed the lyrics to some songs. He never stopped being sexual, he never stopped being Prince.

Agreed. Let's just say, for argument sake, that "Cream" is 100% non sexual and all about self confidence.

"Cream" the video is about humping, fucking, and eating dessert. So, why the mixed messages Prince?

clearly he wanted to fuck his own reflection.

you can see him do this on the bonus DVD which comes with his new book "my sex life as a jehovah's witness"

it was aired once at a local meeting but the elders decided not to show it again because it gave them instant, unholy erections.

cream, sha boogie, bop.

falloff I bet they secretly watch it in the watchtower every now and then.

cream is totally about sex

lol...it's hilarious how we all interpret this song in different ways falloff lol

If we changed the title to "Strive",would you still say it's a sexual song? The only sexual thing about the song is its title. The verses don't mention sex at all.

it is funny isn't it

this is why i always thought it was about sex: he is addressing these words to a figurative "you" and making a reference to physical appearance as in filthy cute. the 'cute' implies he's attracted to the "you", hence, a female/lover. just my tc. still, through other people's eyes i do see how it might not be sexual...falloff

U're filthy cute and, baby, U know it CHORUS:
Cream - Get on top
Cream - U will cop
Cream - Don't U stop
Cream - Sh-boogie bop

he played cream just two years ago. Cream is not a dirty song either, it means "rising to the top" or rising to the top of the charts. Or atleast thats how i interpret it.

Interesting. I know it can be interpreted in many ways... but let's face it... it's about a blowjob.

if he has cast his jehovah's witness beliefs aside, in favor of sexualizing his concerts, then so be it.

its good to see him expressing himself more naturally, even if he is dipping into the past to do so.

i'm not sure how a man who lives by his own rules could have ever followed anyone else's for very long, especially God's.

Point is, he wasn't following God's (because they're unknowable). He was following the rules of a religion. shrug

Tennessee Williams once said "Kill my demons and my angels might die too." My interpretation is if you get rid of all your bad traits some of the good will die too.
