The worst sounding outtakes

Here'a a list of what I feel are the worst sounding Prince studio outtakes currently circulating, judging by sound quality alone.

I don't know about you but I for one haven't been able to locate better sounding versions of these anywhere thus far.

Perhaps you've been luckier than me but, following much deliberation, I have decided to nominate 'Get Wild'[Prince vocal]#1 as possibly the worst sounding unreleased Prince song ever.

The levels on this baby fluctuate so badly that it sounds like someone planted a mike up his rectum and taped this song whilst the track was being played back underwater.

Closely followed (in no particular order of crapness) by:

'The Second Coming' (2:02) from the 1981(I) sessions

'Computer Blue'[Sunset Sound version]#3 (12:29) '83-84(I)

'G-Spot'[extended version]#2 (4:46) 1983-1984(I) sessions

'Toy Box'[instrumental version] (6:16) 1984(II)-1985(I)

'Wonderful Ass'#2 (9:53) 1985(II)-1986(I) sessions

'Big Tall Wall' (5:51) 1986(II) sessions

'Crucial'#2 (7:25) 1986(II) sessions

'Graffiti Bridge' (3:20) 1987-1988(I) sessions

'Rave Unto The joy Fantastic' (5:19) 1988(II)-1989(I)

'The Voice'[Prince/Mavis Staples co-lead vocal]#3 (1:58 )

'Dolphin'[Glam Slam Ulysses version]#1 (6:31) 1993-1994

'Loose!'[Glam Slam Ulysses version]#1 (2:23) 1993-1994

'Loose!'[The Beautiful Experience version]#2 (3:29) '93-'94

'Race'[The Beautiful Experience version]#2 (5:04) 1993-1994

1995-1996 sessions:

'Rock N Roll Is Alive(And It Lives In Minneapolis)'#1 (4:31)

'Right Back Here In My arms' (6:14)

'Jam Of The Year'(remix) (5:41)

1997-1998(I) sessions:

'Come On' (7:17)

'(Eye Like) Funky Music' (4:53)

'Sadomasochistic Groove' (5:23)

Feel free to contribute with your own nominations.

I'm with you on "Big Tall Wall", but you're forgetting "The Voice Inside" and "The Dance Electric" and even "We Got The Power". All awful sounding. If you're fishing for better outtakes - good luck. Nothing has come up to improve these yet.

I have a great-sounding copy of 'The Dance Electric' if you're interested.

Feel U Up demo? Man - the version I have sounds like he recorded it by playing the music through a stereo and sang along into a phone.

However, nothing can beat the utter brilliance of 'Get Wild'[Prince vocal]#1(5:35).

This might be a relatively new track (circa '93-'94) but already it sounds like it was salvaged from the wreck of the Titanic.

I'd also add the 1988 version of Pink Cashmere and No Call U from '82.

Yeah, shame about 'Pink Cashmere', nothing can save that demo.

As for 'No Call U', because of its shoddy sound quality let's just say it sits very uneasily among my other almost pristine quality '1999'-era outtakes and, unlike 'Feel U Up', there is no way you can say there's anything sympathetically 'raggedy' about this one.

Is it safe to say all these terrible sounding demo's do exist in the vault in great quality?

I always thought Prince's versions of 'the Family' songs sucked? but for all i know they may be out in better quality now.shrug

What about "Heaven Over You" the only thing I can make out that Prince is singing is the title itself.

I think the one on 'The Work' is the highest quality one circulating. It's too bad.

SWANG

"Heaven" and "Baby, U Turn Me Up" come to mind.

For the record, we're talking sound/generation quality, not songwriting "good song/bad song" debates, right???

If it it the one Ive heard beore, I dont think that it is Prince.A few boots have "fakes" on them. The Uptown books mention a few (tho Im not positive that "My Lord"is one of them).

Race (The Beautiful Experience)?

I got that off Audiogalaxy and it's perfect. A tad less bass-y than the album version, but fine nonetheless. And it's not taped off the video because it has a longer outtro.
