Janelle Monáe on Prince

She gave an interview on The Current (on the fourth day of November wink ) - and talked at some length about working with Prince...

My pleasure.

The most interesting part (to me, anyway) was hearing that Prince asked her to do his tribute at the BET awards, chose Let's Go Crazy for her, personally - and loved what she did with it.

I hope some of the people around here who were saying, "Well, how did she get to do that?" and "Well, that was embarrassing," listen to this - and get a clue.

I like Janelle Monae, but I didn't like her version of Let's Go Crazy.

I still didn't like it. I thought she looked like she was having a seizure under a strobe light.

I'm actually kind of hoping she doesn't perform on the nights I'm at the show- or at least not ALL of them.

But it's cool if Prince liked it, since it was for him. shrug

I'm not impressed by anything from Janelle so far...but I will give her another shot..since Prince thinks she is best new thing around. But I'm hoping if she doesn't improve from that BET performance, she won't perform all 3 concerts I"m attending.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

You know I think you're cool, most of the time...

I was commenting on your snipe about having wax in our ears...

You need to deal with the fact that someone didn't agree with you.

You get "cute" when someone calls you out on your BS.

With that... Buh-bye. neutral

Besides being an obviously stellar talent, maybe the greatest thing about her as a celebrity is that she is an extremely positive female role-model with true depth and sincerity in a landscape of largely vapid, over-sexed, thoughtless pop divas. This is what makes her music really matter the most in my opinion. The fact that you can't get down with her style of dance is an aside and it's a shame that it causes you to shy from her as an artist, especially since (insert wild .org assumption here ------>) you are a Prince fan. Prince is an excellent example of an artist who deserves more than a surface level study. Many people have dismissed him because of his clothes or his hair or his antics (on or offstage), and all of those people have missed out on his truly unique and wonderful musical journey of a career. I think time is going to show us that Janelle is this kind of artist as well.

nod cool

Janelle is so fantasic, utterly amazing imo and her band compliments every move she makes. There's so much energy, insight and funk there's no denying she has what it takes. Tightrope is a masterpiece, imo, along with a few others. I can't get enough of Archandroid and love Metropolis too headbang I picked up both CD's at First Avenue when she was there in September. Janelle has "it" no doubt about it yes

I even find myself looking forward to 'Of Montreal's" make the bus. Great Cd, I'm still spinning it several times a day, so much diversity. headbang
