A few weeks ago I was in Dublin drinking a cup of coffee at Starbucks when I heard "I like funky music " on the radio.

I never liked that song, but hearing it over the speakers at Starbucks was cool. cool

I made a thread about my experience: A few weeks ago I was on a date. The restaurant we were supposed to go to was pretty packed, so she persuaded me to go across the street. I had my apprehensions, it seemed pretty snooty. AKA I'd be paying a shitload and getting very little in return.

Candle-lit Italian-type place.

Then, Erotic City AND When U Love Somebody came on.

cool I suddenly enjoyed the date much more.

Also I swear I heard a Prince song that I've never heard before...but no one can figure it out.

Call my name in a ZARA fashion store, they only play R&B so

it was nice to hear Prince there.

The day Prince made the press conference at the Apollo

I passed by a store in Times Square that was playing 17 Days

on the front door speakers. I paused for a sec to both enjoy

and think that it was cool to hear a b-side being played on

a store sound system.

Also, a few weeks ago I stepped in to my local video rental

shop and they had UTCM playing on the monitor! I absolutely

couldn't believe it! When I got up to the counter I told her I

couldn't believe they had it on and she gave me a look like
are you kidding, why wouldn't we have UTCM on?

She said she really wanted to see some concert footage but

also didn't think the Grafitti Bridge they had would do it.

I agreed and then asked don't you have Sign O The Times?!

They didn't.

I told her that was what she really wanted!

biggrin

I think this is the strangest...During a station identification break on some Toledo TV station, they were playing Girls and Boys along with it!

And back in 2004 when I was getting radiation, the nurses would play the entire 1999 CD while I was getting my treatments because they knew I loved him and was getting ready to go to his concert that summer. I always cringed when the nasty part of "Let's Pretend We're Married" would come on. I don't think they ever noticed though.

I'll never forget a few years ago i was on a hen's nite out & was going thru a relationship breakup, booked a hotel 4 the weekend, just relaxing in a spa and then WHEN DOVES CRY came on over the radio, i just smiled, closed my eyes & started singing along. Just the right song at the right time! Totally blew me away!

Prince once tried 2 change his name 2 a symbol so that ur'e mother couldn't find him in the phonebook!

My dads house.

I totally understand Mikey. When my mom saw Purple Rain she actually said, "I don't like him. He beats women". I explained that it was a part he was playing in a movie (HELLO! timeout ), but Prince was sh*t listed as far as she was concerned. Fast forward many years later and imagine my surprise when I caught her smiling and bopping along to Prince singing Happy Feet in her home. She was enjoying the movie with my son. I debated whether or not to tell her who was singing, but decided against it. Some things are best left unsaid. shhh cool

What's the most bizarre / unlikely place where you have heard Prince music?

I've got 2:

Yesterday I was in Morrisons supermarket and heard 'Sweet Thing'. I just stopped dead in the aisle - couldn't beleive my ears.

A couple of years ago I was in North India, in a very non tourist place called Ludhiana. I went to the local market area and heard 'You got the Look' blaring from a shop doorway. Amongst all the bangra and traditional Indian music, it was very bizarre.

lol.

There have been a few days where Prince songs seem to be everywhere! At the Games store, shoe store, someone's ring tone on the train, my work colleague's ipod!

that sort'a thing

A few months back, at the London Heathrow airport, I heard one of the shops blaring out "Musicology"..

and as soon as that ended, came on "Pop Life"

I hung around the store during this whole time, but after Pop Life, came on some Black eyed peas song and then some other unknown songs... sad

not bazzar our unlikely but i heard 2 prince songs last night at a basketball game. They played a bit of Let's GO Crazy. but then cut it off. then they played KISS during KISS CAM.

(they zoom in on assumed couples and get them to KISS on the big screen. A few were funny, one a lady pussed another girl out of the way to get her kiss and another one they did not know each other but she kissed him anyway...but the winner was the guy that kissed his beer... then his girl... she threw popcorn at him.)

Just heard Paisley Park being aired on BBC Radio 2.

Not exactly a bizarre place but still quite an odd (but welcome) choice of Prince song...

My daughter's dance school puts on a recital each year and one year the first song that was danced to was "The Rest of My Life" from The Vault.

I was screaming my head off, and my daughter wasn't even in that dance.

"When Doves cry" in my delivery room whilst I was giving birth to my baby daughter 4 years ago, I guess my doctor and I were on the same page(it was his music selection) , the unlikelyness was that we were in Italy....after Jenny from the block was on , and I wasn't too sure.... eek

In my city there is a church with no roof that is called "the bombed out church" and its used for presenting art and social gatherings and stuff, walking past a few months ago i hear "in france, a skinny man died of a big disease with a little name..." being blasted from there!

The other day I was in a place called baa bar which is a trendy student bar, and they played "uptown" which caught me off guard lol

the house next door had builders in during the summer.. sexy young short wearing shirtless guys, so naturally found myself doing extra laundry & gardening this year giggle

anyway those boys liked themselves a bit of prince, it was fun one day to hear them belting out 'kiss' & then 'i think i wanna dance' seeing them wiggling about on the roof.

At Tullamarine Airport (Melbourne) in some electronic store, they were playing "Life O The Party"

And not that it's bizarre but when I visited Harlem and walking past the Apollo Theatre, the outside PA was playing Prettyman cool
