Duuuuude! I don't live in NYC, but that would be amazing! Could really do a lot for that theater and surrounding community. [Edited 10/13/10 15:27pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

A new website would be very cool...but I wonder what would convince Prince that the Internet was no longer over/dead?

Ummm, no. That would suck dog puke through a broken straw. Sorry, dude needs to tour America. I live about as far away from the Apollo as you can get while still being in the continental United States. An East Coast residency would bum me out.
U mean that would suck for you.....lol |

back in 06' he held a press conference in london on 21 nights, maybe he might do the same thing for nyc
or perhaps it just have to do with what we already know like the euporean/asian/american tour dates and rumor of releasing 20ten deluxe
or maybe he might announce something that is unexpecting, hopefully it would be a good thing |

The same way the Vegas residency bummed me out in NJ?

Absolutely. But at least Vegas is like, ya know, Vegas! Lots of other stuff to do and ultra cheap accomodations. Can't really say an Apollo residency wouldn't be cool, I just think a lot of people outside the immediate area would ignore it (not all, but a lot). If he's going to do something like that again, why not just do a Paisley Park residency? At least that would be somewhat in the middle and excite a lot of the fans who have never been there. Regardless, not what I'm expecting the announcement to be about at all.

I stopped getting and trying to speculate a long time ago.
I'd love to see him perform again and will always be a fan, but real life has taken over....

Yep, I knew as soon as the Musicology tour was over that I'd never put that much effort into seeing him (or anybody else) perform live ever again. The Rio was cool once, but Vegas is just a short flight for me. The biggest effort I make for live music now is Coachella, but that's for, like, 100 bands! Otherwise I try not to go any further than SF. I'll go to San Jose if I HAVE to, but I don't like to. |

I live in NJ, but I see most shows in NYC.
I'll also go to Philadelphia or Atlantic City.
I saw Prince in Wilkes-Barre, PA once, with an after party in Scranton. That was THE longest drive EVER!

Maybe if he actually does the South Africa shows, those shows may be streamed live at the Apollo? Maybe the European tour and any other country included in this upcoming tour as well? Would be a great way to bring money to the Apollo theatre. Could be that he's buying the Apollo theatre, becoming a part owner or promoting new and established artists, to perform live shows there. Okay, okay, that might be a bit stretching it, but hey ya never know. But a NYC residency would be kind of cool. [Edited 10/13/10 17:12pm] |

Yeah but you get entered into a drawing, so after 2010 subscriptions, names are drawn to win $20,100 and an ipod-holster moon earwrap. |

Well it's prince we are talking about.

Those were my thoughts as well... Prince has always had a weird PR strategy that depends heavily on his mystique.... on the one hand his underexposure in the press makes whatever he DOES do in the public newsworthy, but on the other than his evasiveness undermines his reach. A Paisley residency would be cool, though he'd have to coordinate a lot of the logistics with the Chanhassen authorities to avoid traffic/parking issues in his neighborhood.
Even with NYC being cost-prohibitive for lots of travelers, its historic significance would be great. And his nod to Harlem would be welcome. sure, i guess from the press's point of view its mysterious because it doesnt happen often and they havent been told what its about...
maybe i just dont see it. prince, mysterious? not for me.
he's a guy in a costume making music and playing it. he says stuff and does stuff that doesnt make immediate sense to people who dont see straight through it.
anyway, i'm sure this press conference (if it happens) will be worthy of a grin or two. for me anyway.

Is it REALLY that much easier to get to the Apollo than Paisley Park, though? And would the surrounding neighborhood be OK with packed shows on consecutive nights? I'm not saying it isn't or that they wouldn't - just asking. A lot of bands have done residencies at The Fillmore in SF, but that place is in a weird location, surrounded by businesses as much as housing.
Side note, mysterious or otherwise, I do not believe Prince would set up a press conference just to announce the release of 20ten. Working with WB again, maaaaybe, but I doubt it. More than likely, if there is a press conference, it's relating to a US tour (it has been six years), possibly bundled with 20ten and/or WB news. |

Yay! The Opus is here. The Opus is finally here. And don't worry about missing this announcement, folks. It will be up on YouTube until Prince has it pulled 4 minutes later. Don't want the announcement getting into the wrong hands.
