Prince News Conference in New York City October 14th

Someone has tweeted:

"Just heard that Prince is holding a mysterious press conference in New York tomorrow..."

He is Brian Hiatt - Senior Writer, Rolling Stone Magazine.

http://twitter.com/hiattb

Man, I can't stand Twitter, but this is like the third or fourth Prince news item I've gleaned from it.

Bust out a few jams with the new band to get the press excited, thereby getting nice words printed about the upcoming tour... maybe?

I doubt it will be that low--perhaps a ten-year membership for $2,010! biggrin

Ummm, no. That would suck dog puke through a broken straw. lol Sorry, dude needs to tour America. I live about as far away from the Apollo as you can get while still being in the continental United States. An East Coast residency would bum me out.

I can't imagine the band members, some of whom have just arrived in Europe, will fly back to NY for a press conference neutral particularly with the first concert in mere days.

As for Prince himself, well, maybe he hasn't left for Europe yet, or else maybe there'll be a big screen set up when the press arrive at the theatre tomorrow wink

Or else maybe Rolling Stone was hmm mistaken...

I hope it happens and there's some exciting news though biggrin

You're in NYC - of COURSE you'd like it! It would be awesome for you! lol I'd completely ignore it. There's no way I'd pay for a cross-country roundtrip plane ticket and a hotel room ON TOP of the concert ticket just to see Prince. That pretty much goes for any residency, though. Like I said, it's time for another tour. He's got to have at least one more in him.

I was really just guessing and I pay ZERO attention to details like where band members are at any given time (not even sure how anybody would know that - I'm guessing it was on Dr. Funkenberry's site). The announcement could really be about ANYTHING, but all the recent rumblings point to a US tour announcement, possibly coupled with a US 20ten release (maybe it will be distributed through Rolling Stone shrug ). As far as "the band" goes, though, it seems like there's a pretty good selection of musicians who are pretty well rehearsed right now. He could play with any number of them.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was having a go at you - according to the John Blackwell Project facebook page, JB left for Europe a few days ago and mentioned a few days of rehearsal (presumably with the rest of the band), which is what I was basing that on.

You're right, it could be about anything, but I'm guessing it will be predominantly US news (no reason to call a press conference in NYC to announce SA, Asia or Australian tour dates wink), unless he's finally going to reveal his overall plan/vision for the tour/cd release(s), etc...

And yes, he could feasibly gather any number of musicians to play with if that was his plan, although that would seem somewhat odd (unless they were past band members and it was to celebrate a deal being struck for the remasters eek)

Murph mentioned the Apollo Theatre and I've seen a couple of other tweets about it, but I'm wondering what the source is - presumably the details of where/when have been given to the press...any info on a time guys?

Ooooh, that Facebook thing. lol That makes sense. But I don't have one of those. At the very least Prince must think it's important if he's actually holding a scheduled press conference. Definitely interested in finding out what it's all about.
