I'm not uncomfortable at all with any group of people embracing someone I like! I am not "defending" Prince or anything, I am "defending" that idea of freedom he has created, that idea that you found in his work too.
I just think that Prince' main aim was to eliminate the world from gender roles and I think that is a brilliant aim. But when people suggest he related to his homosexual audience by dressing differently or wearing make-up they do exactly what Prince tried to fight! Some extremists might even call that sexist, you know...
All I'm saying is Prince was not an icon for sexuality, but for freedom, right from the start. And if you're free you don't have to care about your sexuality anymore - you do what feels best.

He was addressing overall sexual freedom, which is what I was saying - he wasn't addressing homosexuality or heterosexuality in particular...

He is a gender identity icon which is a subset of gay culture/ societal issues. Although straight, pragmatic and lately a religious zealot he has yet to abandon an overtly androgynous presentation. Whether he likes it or not when a man who presents as counter to what is a traditional image of male attractiveness can become a sex icon to millions of women it pushes the ball forward. That Prince is a sex symbol contributes to a world where lgbt citizens see the certainty that America WILL wake up and expand civil rights for all of its citizens.

Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

Just because Prince is gay does not make him a gay icon. The org is the only place I know of that has so many gay Prince fans. Every gay person I know, except for about two or three lesbians, cannot stand Prince, or "Miss Prince" as they call him, or most of his music.
Prince's music has been mostly hard funk/rock and most gay icons from my generation have been singers (usually straight females) who have made disco/house type music.
The only actual gay male icon I can think of is Sylvester who was in your face and completely open from day one and this was back in the 1970s. Even though Prince is gay, everyone I know views him as like George Michael....a gay man who will only come out once he's been caught. And knowing Prince with his years of confidentiality agreements, that won't happen anytime soon. Andy is a four letter word.

You wish he was gay, but he's not, so get the fuck over it.

I think gay people should choose who they want to be their icon - it should nt be chosen for them.
Also, I would think gays would choose their icons because they have a great love for that artist's music/style/stage presence not just because they think that person was gay. Many women artists who are not gay have become gay icons. Some artists who never even aligned themselves with homosexuality became gay icons and it helped them reach a broader fan base. Just look at Brittney Spears. Gay guys love her like a fat kid love cake.

But obviously you did make a mistake or few concerning the fact you edited your message twice. Or if it was a minor tweak, the faults mine for believing so. The point is- While God makes no mistakes- humans DO. I'm not going to even indulge on your false stance of the color purple., i'm sorry but did you create it? Sin effects every person who was born. You steal an item, your a thief. You lie, your a liar. You look apon the same sex with desire- you are sexually immoral. God's given us free will- there are those who accept the Blood that was slain on a cross for their sins- as there are those living in ignorance to it.

First, I'm bummed out that nobody got my word play. Second, I've never once thought Prince was gay. Just figured all the clothing and makeup was part of the act. It's not like there wasn't thousands of guys playing metal in the 80's looking a whole lot more like women than Prince. Third, all colors are gay!

Absolutely not. Nothing of Prince symbolises being gay. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -
